Martin, I didn't use the filter because this was an A/V only test, no flight components, so no noise to filter yet. And I did solder myself

Thanks JB, I had a 3A/5V UBEC around that I just used to test everything, and my tx is indeed fried. ran everything for a few min (used a meter and verified the voltages, current). Got no picture on the rx, and the vtx remained stone cold. Maybe I should have started with that instead of the stock board.

Thanks for the explanation Hucker! That makes sense

Have another vtx coming from nghobbies (and his PSU was back in stock, can't wait to use something more reliable). Hopefully I can get something running next week!

somethings not right here... halp? :(

Took a multimeter, set to DC voltage. Tested on a AA bat, got 1.5v, awesome. 9V battery, 8.99v, great.

hooked up the wires accordingly to the nghobbies PSU. Admittedly I'm not a master solderer, but I see no shorts or incorrect wiring here. I made a solder bridge to push 12v to the camera. (camera verified to work by plugging directly into my monitor, no rf transmitting, works great).

Plugged in the camera to the board, plugged in the battery (no vtx). verified 12v going to camera with the multimeter, it is. verified 5v on the vtx pads, it is.

Unplugged battery. Plugged in vtx. Plugged in battery. (this is a brand new, replacement vtx, not the previously fried one). Vtx a little warm. Not CPU warm, but its not cool to the touch like the fried one would be.

Still have only static on the receiving side. Make sure all the channels are set correctly, yes, vtx on 8, rx on 8. Unplugged house wifi just in case. nothing. Change rx to channel 1 just in case I got the switches upside down. Nothing. Back to 8.

Move transmitting components away (was 1 meter, now 4). Nothing.

At no time was anything powered without an antenna, and both were pointing straight up.
the braided camera wires are soldered together correctly at the join. black-> black, red->red, yellow->white, and they are individually insulated inside the tape wrap
And this is all 2.4ghz, my transmitters are 75mhz, and they were not on anyway

I must be doing something wrong?

Can anybody spot any problems with this?

If you bought that Vtx online from any major retailer ch8 won't work - put it back to ch1.

If you got it from Trappy or someone, - someone told me about the dipswitches being off...put it all to ch1 and test it..?

PS - pretty decent on the soldering because unless that's a new version, those pads are HARD to get into!!

Operating from Canada, ch 8 on the vtx should be unlocked

But i just now switched it all to channel 1, no difference. A/B switch continues to do nothing as well

Just for a sanity check, this is From RMRC site: A/B should be set to A for channels 1-4 and B for 5-8

    Thanks,
Sanity: checked. I read that too, and try both A & B for each test just in case
    still no luck.

I bet you're gonna owe me a Red Bull on this one The cable for the vrx is special...as in different than every other video cable you have but looks like a normal cable. I made the mistake of using my nice and short ground station cables with no RCA's only to find what you are seeing. Once I used the cable that came in the box I got video... since the lawmate only has video/mono/ground it is a 3 conductor connector which doesn't work right wit 4 conductor cables most other equipment uses.

This is the cable that came with the vrx (and that I'm using). Good? Bad? Wrong cable?

Damn that looks to be the right one. You might try this checklist:
    http://www.team-blacksheep.com/article/page:21

it has references to some TBS gear but most is lawmate specific.
