im also pretty sure that about 3-4 months ago ck ststed that the wing was designed for payload in mind not utmost speed, he even warned against it, even full scale aircraft have a max airspeed they can safely fly in. exceed that and the exact same thing happens, flutter boom. this is not a fault of the plane.

even ds'ers have a flutter point.

Ok, So educate us. Honestly, I'm a complete n00b to flying. I really DON'T know what makes a good plane other than generally trying to follow what I see other people doing that works.

Is the foam the issue? The earlier part of your post seems to imply so. So should we be building the wings from Balsa and Lam? Spruce and balsa skin? What in your opinion would constitute an appropriately constructed flying wing for the kind of high speeds that many here (not me) are going for? And what general principles would you suggest for just general FPV flying in order to reduce the silly accidents like various ejected parts that we see on a regular basis?

(Actually, some kind of general build principles document might be a good idea as a community project. Something we could point newbies to and say: Read this before you start, it will save you headaches.)

Moulded foam is here to stay. It's too quick and easy to produce in comparison to other materials. It takes like 3 seconds to mould a new plane once you've got it setup.

In my opinion foam itself is not the issue but bad design/use of materials.

in my opinion it is not a bad design. it's a bad CHOICE if the USER decides they want over 100mph and no extra reinforcement.

the plane kicks wholesale ass at anything up to 150kph. you need more speed? like has been said before, get something designed with speed in mind.

it's not rocket surgery guys. pick the plane to match the mission. dont blame the MFG when you try to make the plane do something it was never meant to do.

the original poster didn't blame the manufacturer, he said he did it for fun/experimentation. i did something similar for fun as i noted so i fully understand that. the "so let's see how much it can take until it breaks" hehe. hey, even you have done such an experiment with the same wing.

but "wholesale" term, really ? :P cmon
