I think it would be a great idea to have a pod that's attached to the bottom of the wing like that, as long as it's going to protect the batteries and it would allow an easy way to adjust the CG of the plane.
Maybe use a base plate on the bottom of the plane and a separate pod that comes off for easy battery changing.

Most important thing is that batteries would be protected during (crash) landing and that it's not going to come loose during flight
It would also protect the bottom of the plane if you're landing on a rough surface.

Of course all of this is coming from a guy who hates to cut battery holes in his wings because he can never get them to look neat...

I don't know how you would create a hatch that would open and close reliably to get the batteries in and out, but something I was thinking about is that you want to keep the airflow going to the pusher prop nice and 'clean' to minimize noise and maximize efficiency.

Also, like you suggested via PM, the ability to mount it on top as a canopy would make this more useful.

I'm not the world's greatest artist but I thought a picture would make it easier to explain what I was thinking.

Edit: There's an extra word in the picture, not sure why Can't be bothered to redo it right now...
