Do you guys think a 5v bec would be too much for this?

You could run 5v into the USB charge port probably.
My pendent does not charge while its on.
No but it should power itself from the USB port, I have tested this with no battery connected at all.
What I'm going to end up doing rather than buying a switching regulator, even though they're cheap and well worth it, is do up a linear regulator and just power the goggles through that. My future ground station (already in redesign 2) is going to have outputs for a few different voltages to facilitate it.
My Crystals are coming! I hope shipping from Turkey doesn't take too long. :P
Got mine in today! I built a 3.8v linear regulator for it, really simple. They worked well, pics tomorrow.
Sorry about no pictures, I promise I'll get them up as soon as I can.
It seems like there is more than one model of pendant controller, mine doesn't have the same pads and things that the one I've seen pictures of. Because of this, the white haze mod on mine will be in what was once the plug from pendant to goggles. The supply for the matrices are the two solder points inside that plug, one on the top and one on the bottom, it's a light green wire, and mine are reading ~9.3v, which would explain why both my screens are hazing, I'll try dropping them to ~8v.
I was also planning on getting a goggle lense laser cut, but seeing as it would only be used once, I decided to just hack up the original. Removed the right earbud, because I don't want it, but the left one will eventualy be attached. I'm doing my goggles abit differently, The pendant and wires will stay inside of the ski goggles, but all of the control buttons (except power on/off) and the video/audio/power sources will be outsourced to my ground station.
