Thread: RG-316 vs RG-174

    RG-316 vs RG-174

    I need to have a run of cable approx 1 meter between my 433MHz RX antenna and my DragonLink receiver.

    Should I lose sleep of the fact I only have RG-174 coax for this, and not RG-316 coax?

    Thanks.

    why not run the ppm/power instead?

    Then I would need to embed a bulky RX in the wing and route 8 sets of servo wires to it (most of which would need to be over 1M in length and thus be susceptible to interference resulting in potential servo jitter), instead single coax lead.

    Oh right, thought you meant remoting your TX antenna away form you. My bad!

    Only partially right - you could run a ppm stream from the dragon rx to a decoder. That way there is only one servo wire to run... Use cat6 s/FTP and its shielded too.

    As for the difference between using the two types of cable, I'm afraid I must admit I don't know if it would have any adverse affect.

    RG-316 = 0.55db loss/meter
    RG-174 = 0.58db loss/meter
    RG58 = 0.3db loss/meter

    The difference between 174 and 316 is minimal, I put in RG58 because I use it

    Ian - short answer - no. 174 is what comes standard as DragonLink RX antennas. It's still such a short run overall that the loss isn't something that you will likely feel. I have used 174 for video too with no real issues that I can speak of.

    Someone with more knowledge may chime in - however - I don't think it makes a difference.

    So the RX being next to video TX doesnt matter when you move the antenna out on the wing?

    You have 2 wings (hopefully)
