    Build your own Pant/Tilt!

So, nowadays these are cheap to buy, but what if it doesnt fit your camera or if it is out of stock (like always at HK)??? Well, kill some time and build your own. It is pretty easy with basic tools and materials. I will post dimentioned plans if anyone wants them.

First, cut out all the parts. I laser cut them, but a scroll or ban saw would work. I used 3/32" plywood.

Put together the bottom end. Dont forget the cross brace. Using a triangle keeps them square.

Put together the camera mount. Mine is for a CX161, but it could be modded for various cams.

For the pivot you can run music wire through and use a lock collar OR

You can use screws. The screws are nice because you can tighten it down and not use tilt. Dont forget the washers.

Now mount the camera. Also attach the servo bracket. I used 2 screws, but you could probably glue it.

The tilt servo works best if you cut off the mounting flanges. Cover it with heatshrink if you are gluing with CA so it dont wick into the servo.

Now carefully make a pushrod for the tilt. I usually attach one end and mark it for the other end.

Use bread ties to make sure the wires are secure and dont hang up during movement. Now you are ready to mount it on the plane!

And this is why you're cooler than me. Superb. When you start working with CF or kevlar let me know.

Well laying that up wouldn't be too hard but probably a bit different. Actually, it would be the same if it is laser cuttable. The ply should be stronger than really needed. If you crash it bad enough to break this design,, it probably is going to break regardless. A stronger P/T is probably Workshop's Servo Killer, but it is a little more expensive to build since the alum servo arms are like $15+ each.

Definatly a DIY project, but some folk enjoy that. I already cut an extra one of these P/T's for you BabyJ if you want it. It works great with regular servos, but I like mine with a 180 degree servo on pan so you get a nice wide pan, and of course MG servos are nice if you dont mind the weight.

I will assemble it for you if you want. If you want a 180 or MG servos you will have to get me some I have no spares. Let me know.

Nice work man, once I finally get the urge to use tilt I will definitely build one.

If only I had a laser cutter, or a nice band saw, or even some hand saws...
Which laser cutter do you use? This isn't the only project that I'd use one for... (tempting isn't it.)

It is an Epiloge Legacy 75w I think. It can be really handy when I have time to use it!
