    Question Can't decide...

In the market for some new Fat Sharks, but I'm torn between the Dominators and the RCV922 Aviators. Interestingly I noticed a distinction on RMRC's website that shows a (2010) in the description. Is there another version of the Aviator coming soon?

At any rate, I've heard that Dominators are favored 2:1 over the Aviators... primarily due to the edge clarity (focus?) over the FOV. I've also read where some folks don't like how the image from the Dominators appears far away.

I would be interested if anyone has any way to show the difference between the two goggles as if you were wearing them.

    Thoughts?

    Well...

Here are the new goggles coming out sometime in 2012 http://fpvlab.com/forums/showthread....ll=1#post95467

Those are as far as I can tell a replacement of the base goggles.

So lets assume you want to decide between those and the dominators rather than the older model.

here is what greg said about these new goggles to me (I hope this is okay Greg - if not let me know and I'll remove it but there's nothing confidential in there I'm sure)

"Basically its a redesigned RCV922 AE headset with high quality tooling, 35 FOV, adjustable IPD and better colors. It'll be in the Dominator quality and price range. Dominator image will still be the best (as it has glass optics) but the new headset is an all round better FPV headset as its lighter, sexier and bigger image (and higher quality feel than Dominator)"

So, if you want absolute best image quality... dominators.

If you want a bigger field of view and some slicker looking better all-round FPV goggles then you want to wait for these new ones.

Hope that helps! It probably doesn't because I'm in the same position trying to decide what to upgrade to from the predators. I know a problem with the old base goggles was the OSD text becoming blurry around the edges, but these new ones have a smaller field of view still (35 degrees vs 46 degrees) so should hopefully be much clearer than the old ones while providing a slightly bigger and more immersive image than the dominators. But then the glass optics mean the image from the dominator should be better... decisions decisions...

Hey, thanks for the info! Actually it looks from the specs that the new design might be a good compromise between the dominators and the current RCV922 version. Will have to wait to see when they roll out to vendors.

What OSD do you use or are you planning on using? I have a plane set up with dragon OSD and can't read the text around the edges well with my aviators. It's much easier to see in the dominators. This is mainly due to the horrible text clarity of the DOSD, but something to think about. I have no problem reading the Tiny II osd with my aviators.

Just buy the Dominators. Or look up the thousand other threads that this has been discussed in, read them all, and then go buy the dominators.

They are better goggles, hands down.

Yeah, you know I was kinda leaning toward the Dominators, but I'm really curious about the new version of the Aviators. No matter what, I'm sure it will be very cool to see that streaming video from the front of the plane for the first time.

The problem is We have no idea when the new goggles are coming out lol.

Then again, you can't get a pair of dominators right now either.
