    Hi sircana,

now it has happened - the armageddon of FPV-flying: crashing your most valuable part... THE LEGENDARY 5.8 GHz circular wireless SPW antenna

    Find some photos here: https://picasaweb.google.com/1164164...64432311911666

EDIT: What's actually broken: The SMA connector is broken and at least one of the antenna "leaves" is bent (very hard to photograph).

I want to order a new one anyways, but I'm wondering if it makes any sense to send this one back to get it refurbished by you. What do you think?

    Cheers
    Flo

PS: It's kind of good that it happened for two reasons: a) The crash forced me into a break and now I'm really far ahead with my 3d-printable Tricopter design (to be released here soon!) and b) I'm getting taught a hard lesson how crappy FPV video can be if you use a stock antenna!!!

Upppsss... This is a real crash... This is what I always say: If you do it, do it right...

No possibility of repairing it. However, I have been looking through my records, and yours belongs to the first batch of orders we received when introducing the 5.8GHz Helical. Being an "early adopter" you deserve some support from my side. I send you a PM.

P.S. Current version uses flexible mast. It will help next time...

Man you're just crazily good in customer support! Thanks for the PM.

Just for the record: I'll ordered another one and will convey more people to those Spanish quality antennas

And to finish this off: There's an HD video of the crash (to be honest: Who doesn't love crash videos?! ^^). I'll upload it soon.

I have not done a comparison test, but was out yesterday with 2 x CW SPWs and out to a 1km without any dropouts or bad signal.

i have a 5.8 helical on my rx and the short spiro bet on my 200mw tx, what the best way to aim the helical lets say if flying 30, 50, 100ft or higher. I understand that there is an imaginary coverage beam of the helical but I dont understand how it works.

The helical axis should point to the plane. Imagine it as a torch: you need to lighten the plane, so no need to point it exactly to the plane, but it needs to be more or less oriented towards it.

    I hope this helps...
