I think TBS is pretty badass. That's all I have to say about that.
That's a rule change in one particular area, not a law change. FPV has been banned there, not made illegal. There's a significant difference.
And if the reasons cited for the ban are genuine then I don't see it as a bad thing for FPV. It's not about being anti-FPV, it's about safety and protection of wildlife. The rule simply wasn't in place before because the situation hadn't been encountered. That said, if the rule was made out of anger then it sets an ugly precedent - but I see no evidence of this.
is RC of all forms banned in the entire park? I mean prior to everytning happening.
Prior to the TBS flights there were no rules pertaining to RC/FPV. In about April new rules were published that specifically banned the use of RC/FPV in the park. It is my opinion after following TBS for a year and reading what transpired it is no coincidence that the fight (not the actually flying) put up by TBS helped create these rules. The rules specifically refer to RC and "First Person Video" not being allowed.
I would not be surprised if the rangers thought RC was not legal because there are serious flight regulations in the GC area, particularly at low altitude. These FAA regulations do not pertain to unmanned aircraft.
BTW, I think TBS has done incredible work in the FPV community. Look at their post counts and the technical nature of what they contribute most people in FPV have learned a ton from those guys and been very motivated by their videos. I'm just a noob from Seattle and he's answered questions via PM on multiple occasions. That passion is very clear and a big reason why he is so popular on FPVLab.

I'm really starting to hate online public forums.
To the OP - just quit the forum then instead of attention whoring. Good bye.
See? Simple.

This hasn't been discussed here so I'll state it again, although I did say it at least 5 times over at the RCG thread and very few listened ...
The Grand Canyon NPS thought that FPV was banned. They were alerted to the "problem" about 2 years ago when the first videos started surfacing (sentry posted to them). They opened up a task force to try and contain the problem and arrived at the conclusion that under current law R/C would not be allowed in the national park due to FAA and NPS regulations. Turned out none of these regulations covered R/C aircraft, all of them were directed specifically at full scale ones. So they changed the rules after we pointed out the issue. Was the rule as a result of TBS showing up there? Yes. Would anyone else have been able to fly without problems? Certainly not. The decision on FPV had been made long time ago there, if anyone got caught there he would face the same problems.
That's it for me. Support (or don't) what you want. If you don't fly with the equipment we fly with -- then there is more stock left for us. I don't think this decision qualifies as news-worthy though, especially since it's based on a bunch of BS that someone dreamed up over at RCG and never even had the balls to apologize for.
Doesn't get more clear than that. You either get it or you don't guys. :smh:

It's not just RC, one particular Law Enforcement individual I spoke with from another state had his kite confiscated. He put a camera on a kite and launched it. They took it, and the camera.
So in "Their" minds it was always illegal. They specifically stated that to me on the phone as well.
A kite...
Now on the other hand do you notice how many helicopters go in and out of that place? Th ey don't have a problem with a flying bomb with spinning metal blades flying around there.
I wonder what a helicopter blade would do to a Condor....
