so how did you get rid of the vibes ?

    Hi

i hope this is the correct place .. if not, please moderator, move this to the correct forum.

the thing is, i have a quad copter, not stabilized, only KK red board.
i try to use it for FPV .. it's not easy .. but i hope i will get around ...

the issue is the vibrations that make it useless to add the keychain HD camera.

what i did by now is:
    1. i mounted it with a strip of Velcro to one of the arms i use + form and wanted to avoid the front motor in the middle of the frame.
    2. i added a shelve on an arm and attached the camera to the shelve
    3. added a dampening material on the shelve ( few kinds ) scotch bride / some foam used to dampen the video TX i use on the quad / those stuff with / with out Velcro / ...
    4. removed the shelve and moved the camera to the upper dome of the quad.
with and without the stuffs above ..

the best i get is Jello effect.
    (uploading video ..)

    this is how it looks.

oh .. lol .. forgot to add.
new props .. old props .. same vibrations.

when saying balance motors, you say zip ties around the can ?

    that's a LOT of jello

And I thought I had a LOT of jello.. until I looked at your video
For me, I am still searching for the best mounting position to get rid of jello.
My props are unbalanced still, but I have been experimenting with a few mounting styles to see which one is better.

For now I just use doublesided tape, a bit of sponge, and zip tie the cam to my quad frame. My latest video shows a bit of improvement (have not uploaded it yet), but it is much better than my first video which is full of jello (maybe similar to your video guy1a).

I found out that if your cam is loose, you will get horrible jello. Try to mount it as firm as you can.

I'm having a hard time with mine as the cam unit is a bit curved, I am still thinking how to firmly mount it in place so it doesn't move..

Here's my first video.. (horrible jello!)

Then there was this (just OK, but still wavy if I forward flight or move a lot)

And there's this.. (better, but because it was shady so you can't see jello much!)

Anyway, still experimenting.. and hopefully find the solution soon.
Gonna get new props as well and balance em out

What kind of props are those? If they're from hobby king throw them out! Use APC, gemfan or if you can afford them, graupner. Put them on the balancer and use tape on the underside of the lighter blade until they're as good as you can get. Make sure the prop adapter rings fit the motor shaft perfectly and the prop is centered. Make sure the motors are mounted tightly and that the motor goes into the motor mount tightly (use locktite on the set screws). You should see a big improvement here.

Try ziptieing the keychain cam directly to the frame or one of the arms and make us a video so we can see the frequency/amplitude of vibrations you still have. Then we'll go from there...

The easiest way around vibration is pure inertia. On motorcycles, they used to mount the handle bars via rubber dampeners. Personally, I fill the bars with lead shot.

In your case, the best way around it is to mount the camera to something soft and use the camera's inertia to keep it from vibrating. Soft foam might do the trick. It would be great if you could mount your entire control board and/or battery in this soft foam as that would increase the inertia and stabilize even further.

Mind you, that little keychain camera has problems in processing moving objects anyway. I had it on the nose of a smooth P-61 airplane and it waved like mad. Never used it since.

If it is broken, fix it. if it isn't broken, I'll soon fix that.

I also see you are in your own rotor wash. This is not helping things at all. The turbulent air can cause the jello like that.

    Guy1a,

If the above suggestions don't get rid of it all, try changing out your motor bearings for some ceramic or abec7 rated bearings like these guys sell. www.bocabearing.com . Your motors will thank you.
