Yagi vs BiQuad + Crashing (video inside - lol)

This video shows a couple of things.

    1) The purpose of this video was to compare my 12dbi Yagi to my home made bi-quad. I pulled the audio to the quad - therefore - if you hear the telemetry - it's the yagi.

    2) I had a pretty severe crash that removed the front of the FunJet due to the camera's ability to adjust to lighting conditions... it is the RMRC 520 camera. This particular camera is quite a bit better than the first one - but still a far cry from the 480OSD.

    3) This is the second "good" flight that I have had with the FJ - and it shows how crisp it can be.... I enjoy all but crashing it. This was the first takeoff with goggles on - VERY EASY.

What did you like better? Yagi or Biquad?

100% Biquad. Nearly all static in this video is when the Yagi is selected. Sorry I left that little piece of info out... when you hear the telemetry data - that's the yagi... I unplugged the audio on the biquad.

I am in the process now of building a double biquad to put on the diversity and remove the Yagi.

You can clearly see the Bi-Quad is far better that the Yagi, you didnt say which vtx antenna your using ? Was it linear or Circular.

I ask because on my Cloverleaf i cant knock my Yagi`s performance, yes they have a 3dbi loss, CP - Lin but because the planes vtx is CP its not really an issue so far.

Having said that ill be making my own Bi-Quad CP next week, then hopefully i too can ditch the 16dbi Yagi`s ( which give me 13dbi after losses ) for 11dbi Bi-Quad which will should keep me quiet for some time to come

It's lineal. I am using an IBC inverted V antenna on the tail. It's really amazing isn't it? What's odd is that for some reason the Oracle selected the Yagi as much as it did... immediately after switching to the Biquad - the picture was CRYSTAL clear.

I just finished my double biquad last night... there are a couple of tweaks that need to be done - but I should be ready to test it within the next day or so... I will replace the Yagi with that.

Of other newsworthy topics - Tim at Readymade has struck again... I sent him the video of the light balance and subsequent crash.... he is going to let me swap that camera out for either another DPC480 (Actually the RMRC480) or the RMRC540 camera. Both are a touch bigger - but I know from experience - the OSD on the cameras let you make some adjustments that eliminate the issue.

The RMRC520 camera that is on there now - I really think -would be great for an E* or slower moving plane - something where it is pointed down a bit more. The issue with the FJ is (where I have the camera mounted) it looks almost straight out. The plane is also 2X the speed of the E* - as such - less forgiving of video lighting delay's.

Also colour your planes nose black, it helps loads with the light balance of the camera btw
