Mounting a 5.8 3 turn directonal.

Hello Hugo,

I received the 3 turn helical antenna - thanks, I can't wait to use it.

Can you tell me the preferred way to mount it? Can it be in contact with a metal backing, or does it have to be wood? Do I just glue the support to the back of the antenna?

You can put anything in the back.
I personnaly prefer double side foam tape, be sure to clean both Sides with alcohol.

I finally got to go some distance today. 1.3km out, 300m up and I got a bit of static heading away at that point. Didn't go any further but is that what you would expect with 3 turns? Or should I have held on and gone a bit further, I'm new so static gives me the willies...

It depend of what you have on the TX side, let take you have 200mW with tuned CL/windmill then you can hold it further, video will degrade progressively.

Its a 600mW IRC vTx. So from what you say I can go a lot further! Duo5800 on GS.

Here is my GS. All my antennas are from you Hugo. Plane has a 3 lobe one, can't recall the name.



Is the antenna separation adequate?

Antennas separation is adequate, however be sure the coax are top quality as you may loose a few db in them.
