Smile Having trouble getting image from my immersion gear

    Hello,

I am fairly new to FPV and I hate to sound like a broken record, however here we go.

I just purchased a full package immersion set 5.8 GHZ Vtx 600MW, RX 5.8 Duo diversity, a EZOSD with sensor and a full anntena tracker system with 8dbi patch attenas 2 of them.

Ok now the issues, as all first timers I went a read all the manuals and forums on how to get set up, really not rocket science and fairly easy to do. I like the plug and play! I have a GoPro Camera Hero2 with the immersion RC cable 2.5 barrel and the 5 pin Molex connector.

    1) I simply plugged the camera in to TV out with the 2.5 connector and then plugged the 5 pin molex connector to the ezosd video in.

    2) I then plugged the supplied 5 pin molex connector that was already attached to the EZOSD video out into the 5.8 GHZ 600MW Tx

    3) I then plugged the power connector from the EZOSD sensor into the Tx

    4) all other connections from the sensor were already attached to the OSD

    5) I think all is good to this point

    6) I then connexted 1 7.4V 1800 MAH 2S Lipo into the reciving deans battery terminal into the sensor (All things light up!...Good thing I believe) Lights are blinking on the OSD, Tx has a light on and camera is up and running. BTW I also had put my supplied 5.8 GHZ whip antenna on the Tx (I learned the hardway about that rule from a previous experience)

    7) I then plugged 1 5.8 ghz patch antenna into the Rx duo reciever marked rx1 and then a whip antenna 5.8 ghz larger than the Tx one into rx2 connection. (Hope that is right??)

    8) I then plugged a 3.5 barrel video cable into AV 1 and then plugged the composite Yellow video, Red Audio and White Audio connectors to my LCD monitor (Again not rocket science and I know these cable work for AV as I tested them with another camera feed) Ok I am ready now to plug the battery in and watch my wireless feed on the monitor

    9) I plug a 3S 11.1V 460 MAH battery into the my 3.5 female barrel connector for the Rx power and lights come on and I can see the rx1 light come on...but low and behold no signal alert on my monitor (Sad)

    10) I think to myself it might be a channel problem so i go through the multiple channels with each press of the button on the Rx and listen for the beeps 1, 2, 3, 4 the rx is happy as i hit a channel that does this dance between rx 1 and rx 2, 5, 6, 7, 8...alas nothing no viseo signal (Very sad)

    11) So i try to go around the ezosd and sensor and go direct to the tx (again not rocket science) simply take out the video in molex for the go pro and plug into the tx directly and change the connector for power for the tx and plug a battery to the Tx (This is where I got a bit nervous and worried about the 12V and 5V) I plugged a 4.8V 2000MAH Nicad into the tx and it powered up. Camera does not need power as it has it's own supply, turned camera on Tx shows power light and again no signal detected (Very Very sad)

    12) Now I think I am a bit of a moron to be so paraniod of power inputs but I believe if I am reading it right the sensor, tx and rx all say they can accept 6-16V so I might be under supplying the voltage requirements for the OSD and sensor by only supplying a 2S 7.4V and then there after for the Tx isolated a 4.8V

If one of the wise experts on this forum could be so kind as to assist this old and tired IT person here I would be most grateful if I could just get one image even the OSD display, I would be a much happier person to live with.

Any responses would be appreciated and I would and could offer up some pics or explain further details. I am thinking I am just missing something very small and I am caught between exploring and timid of over powering the units so your encouragement will certianly boost me forward.

    Many Thanks in Advance

    Dave

Yes it is a gopro hero 2 camera with it's own power suppy and there is no cap unfortunately. I am at a loss to know what could be wrong? do you believe I am powering the system with enough ample power voltage as described above. Is there anything that I can do to test the tx or rx and OSD independantly, these products are new so I would imagine they would be in good condition, however you never know?

    Thanks

Another point as this is a brand new OSD and sensor would I need to upgrade the firmware?? How could I just try and display the OSD on AV alone is this possible this way I can try and narrow done the root issue either Tx or OSD...etc

    Thanks

It ships with the latest. But how about you post some pictures showing how you have it all connected and we'll go from there?

One thing I'd like for you to check right away is the following: the self locking connectors used on the EzOSD are sometimes hard to take apart, when you pull on them with enough force it sometimes results in the plastic shroud on the connectors on the EzOSD to move slightly. In that case the electrical contact is no longer made. You can check to see whether there's a gap between the PCB and the plastic shroud. I've illustrated this in the below quoted image:

Obviously I removed the shrinkwrap to be able to take clear pictures, but that's not required, you can clearly see through the shrinkwrap whether the plastic shroud has been pulled out or not.

Thanks for the pic Mr. Sassen. I have my unit at home and I am experiencing flickery videos and I think this may be the solution. Thanks!!!

The Rx is shipped with three cables: two A/V cables and one power cable. Where are you located so I can send you a cable set? PM me your address details.

Ok understood and thank you for your clear diagram. I have indeed had issues with pulling out the connectors and they did initially slide completely out of the clear shrinkwrap. I have since made sure that the master female connectors are completely seated all the way back as per your diagram with the thumbs up, however I will check once more to be absolutely sure!

Next I will take some pics and send tonight of my wiring connections clearly so that you can truely make a good evaluation of my situation.

I will mention one thing before I send out the pics I did for sure notice that the Tx will get hot or let's say very warm after a few minutes of being powered up via the Sensor and OSD, however it is much less hot when I directly plug in the power to the Tx (again and most likely the result of feeding the Tx 4.8V vs the 7.4 via the Sensor and OSD)

One more point is the ready made RC immersion cable for the go pro hero 2 has the tv out 2.5 barrel and a power feed to charge the go pro as well it is the micro USB plug adaptor and when I plug it in the Go Pro lights up and when I turn on the go pro the light goes out on the go pro and I can see that the battery indicator shows charging. May this be a problem? I have tried not to plug this in as well, however it makes no difference in the AV signal not being detected.

Just some information so that I am completely transperent, as I am in the IT field and completely understand forensics for root cause and every detail is important in getting to a root cause and isolating the pain points.

Many Thanks for your assistance and I truely admire your resilliance in helping so many folks, including myself.

    Ok,

I chaeck and rechecked that all the shroud connectors were seated correctly...no issues at all.
Powered everything up again and againall lights and sounds check out for the Tx EzOSD, and Rx...lovely.
Result is still no AV signal.
I introduced a more powerfull battery to the Sensor and OSD instead of the 2S 7.4V I plugged in a 3S 11.1V 2200mAh, again no issues just noticed that the Tx got much hotter over a few minutes of playing around, I am assuming this is quite normal and is ok once airflow is introcuced when flying. I see no visible issues with any of the circiutry on any of the gear. So now I am pretty sure the cable for the GoPro is the culprit as the double connectors tha one I mentioned ready made Rc has that micro usb charger and it is wired in on the brown white and green cable of the immersion molex. As I do not have a spare I am going to un solder this cable and follow the proper wiring Brown and Orange as the red is not used...correct?

Also another question I see that there is another molex connector on theTx back side to accept a CCD type connection, I do have a 12V ccd camera with this type of connector can I use this?

I am sorry that I was not able to upload my pics last night, my daughter has taken my camera, however I should have it back tomorrow and will upload pics to show you may connections.

    Thanks

    Dave
