FPV distance record?

I think what you guys fail to realize is that HAMs are sending cross-continent messages with low frequency and high output power. Once you factor that into the equation flying long range with "any" gear really is no longer a challenge, because any old fart on the HAM forum will say "wahahahaha. a 100 miles? Are you sure there is no zero missing in this bitch?"

In any case. pointless discussion is pointless. move along. Let me know a day in advance they do break our record. that way I can double it the day after

You don't have to be an old fart. Back in my ham days I would talk to Costa Rica on my 10 meter mobile while I was delivering pizzas. Or on summer nights when there was ducting going on I would talk to guys in New York on 2 meters from my car in Virginia.

There are definate differences in classes of planes and I have no problem with that but the tone here from some is this "you didn't use what I used so your achievement doesn't mean squat."

I personally am not out to belittle anyone, I merely am pointing out that 'records' are not always comparable, no matter the achievement.

I would personally consider doing 250kph in a go-kart an achievement, however attaining the same speed in a Porsche or similar high-end sportscar is something which is trivial to do.

So is this an achievement in my book? Yes it is. Would I call it a record? Yes I would. Do I think it ranks up there with some of the records done with electric planes? For example Roberto's flights? No, as this isn't an electric plane, but a gasser, which in my opinion is a different category altogether.

I just don't understand the use of the word "record". There are so many variables it's hard to categorize and therefor best split into separate "records". All are great personal achievements, but records? I don't think so. wireless links have gone further and planes flown longer.
