Hey guys,
Last week Crist Rigotti, one of the only people that can still "hang" with us in Long Range, flew out to 31.6km and back, claiming a new record - even though we flew out much further (43.5km) about half a year ago. His reason for that was that he flew out and back, therefore a new discipline which deserves a new record. Yawn.
Fine with us. But what really tipped us off is that he - again - refused to post any kind of footage. For those that don't know, raw video material is what we really go by these days, as battery is the limit, not the video link. We tried to post raw footage last time but messed up the recording. Crist Rigotti had the footage every time, yet refused to show it to the public, and did not give reasons. This raised a few questions in terms of "sportsmanship" and "safety". Moreover, we felt offended that the claims of our record had to be revoked because we didn't post the RAW footage while he can make a claim without posting anything at all.
How can a current long range world record holder get away with just making the claim and not providing us competitors with the vital info that's needed to gauge our systems against each other?
Anyways, in the interest of furthering our FPV hobby, we're posting the full flight footage. We wouldn't have flown this record had it not been for Crist's (in our opinion) arrogang behavior. The proverbial "taste of his own medicine" in full effect.
So, this concludes our 2nd attempt ever at flying long range. And the 2nd world record by a fair margin. Having quality equipment really goes a long way. In this sense, we want to thank our sponsors and friends over at ImmersionRC, HobbyKing and Ritewing for innovating and pushing the limits. Each system is only as good as its weakest link, and it seems I can even drop the 24dbi grid on its receiving element, completely bend it, and still fly out with a solid video link (sorry RiSCyD, I'll fully refund that damage!!).
We spent a good portion of the flight testing new equipment to improve our Zephyr ARF kits. Our customers will receive full benefits of these "experiments" and we've provided more info in the video that is to be released. It's rendering now, should be available in an hour or two.
RiSCyD & Trappy for Team BlackSheep. Over and out.
Edit: here's the vid!
