I remember ordering my first bluebeams and I think I emailed Alex - and specifically said "Hey no hurry, still building" - and man, 1-2 weeks I had those things wrapped up nice in a box...

You guys do good stuff but if you can't innovate then you will stagnate and some chinese company will put you out of business.

Trappy's been so busy that I'm afraid he's going to lose the very reason he got into the hobby!! I love his first videos....the HD one's....LOL

You are right on #11 but half the fun is recording an "HD" copy of what you do, put it out for others to enjoy - I'm not in it to go hollywood or anything.

I used to compete with long range rifles and when it stopped being fun I quit. I can do it again any time but it's been 10 years and I don't miss it, maybe every once in a while..

At the essence if a customer pay, customer expects (because thats what big shops we all use almost daily provide):
    - working product, exchange if damaged etc
    - ~1 day processing
    - shipments tracking
    - ~1 day email replies (if any question is made, which is not the majority)

Of course small vendors are generally not able to provide that. But they also do not make it clear on their sites. In fact, they often make it appear as if they had a huge company while they're alone and overworked. Not the fault of the customer. If item is not ready, mark it as back-order or out of stock. Not "ill do it in 1-2-3 days its ok!".
If you're away, you must mark so. People who pay aren't going to expect you being away. Otherwise, make it clear in huge font when you order "3 days processing, plus ground shipping that may take 2-6 days to the US, 2+ weeks intl'".
That way if you make most orders in <1 day, people are happy.

    Keyword: expectations.

I personally only expect random quality/odd delays that from "vendors" who are selling by PMs on RCG (that being said many of those are VERY quick, probably because they dont have many "customers").

disclaimer : i ordered once from alex and got everything quickly

I Got some stuff form AVS, Was completely satisfied with both product and support form IBC. Unfortunately some people in this world are wankers.

Hearing you on the packaging side of things. Takes Ages!

    very nice thread.
I think this should help people understand some stuff. Including me..
I received some fat sharks with the wrong cable yesterday and I was so angry.
Then I realised it was only a mistake anybody could make.
I hope this thread will give more respect to vendors who we all love for supplying us gear.
Weather we show it or not.

Wow, well said IBC. I owned an eBay drop off business that closed in 2009 and boy, Lessons 1, 2, 4 & 5 are simply a bullseye!

It amazed me how much "It only takes 5 minutes to pack a box." is said by those who have never packed a box who wanted the item to arrive without damage. Reminds me of a few who ship stuff in the RCG classifieds and eBay. I can only imagine what you had to do to make sure a circular polarized antenna made it safely to a customer.

And "You can please everyone if you try hard enough"? Oh geez, there is just a percentage of people in the world who have already made up their mind to be difficult, though not all of them mean to be ornery. What can you do when they "think" they used the product right, call you to complain and return it, then to find out later it was user error, not a defective product? Whole reason there is a manufactrurer refurbished market in electronics...

Been a online vendors since 2007, and yes you are right Alex. I try not to put feelings into it and stay neutral not to wear me off.
Sometime, I get a mail just to say how great my products are or how glad someone I helped is to be in the air. This really keep me going

If cheerleading helps for you guys, the weather has turned here in Seattle and each time I go out I go a bit farther and learn a little bit, with the OSD I can tell my distance and each trip I make I go a bit farther, higher, learn to thermal etc. Thanks for the technology that makes it happen!

Do you guys really pay 50% company tax? I thought we in Aus had it bad with a 30% company tax on profits + personal tax based on what you draw down as a director etc..
