Its a perfectly valid point, but this is the rough test flight version... I'll be leaving the final sand and paint, decals, avionics covers etc until after maiden.

It's really not perfect, the Matt finish combined with the photo are very forgiving. It's not bad, but I certainly don't want you guys thinking its perfect lol...

Not much technique really - its pretty much my first go at glassing a plane. I did leading edges of a plane a long time ago (another euro infact) but never the whole lot.

It's really just the material that's fantastic to work with.

I use a lightweight and very flexible 25gm cloth from jepe's fast foam shop, and then (with the exception of the intakes) I have glassed with WBPU rather than epoxy resin. It's much easier to work with, cleans off your brushes with just water, and is easy to sand smooth.

It is much lighter than doing an epoxy resin glassing and less effort to make look nice. The trade off is less strength... To give you an idea though, glassing an entire wing, including paint, added a little over 20g. Can't say fairer than that! It's added noticeable rigidity, and you no longer dent the surface just by looking at it aggressively.

In other news, I just heard from Sander - he's come through very nicely for me and is sending out a replacement rx today. Cheers for the customer service chap!

Once I have my hands on that, there's not much more stopping me!

    Still looks great man!

Do you think you could post a hyperlink to the PPM decoder you're using for the cockpit?

thanks Z, it really looks great. I´ve been using gorilla for glassing over foam but it´s hard to get that great finish you have there. will give WBPU a try.

I managed to give it a real test yesterday... I stepped on the front on my tail because I had it off next to the plane and didn't see it as I picked the plane up and walked off. Unbelievable!

The front part below the APU intake was completely squished. Some boiling water poured over it for 20-30 seconds and it was almost back like new. A quick go over with some sand paper and a thin coat of paint, and you'd probably never know it happened. I'd say it passes the ruggedness test!

So, other than destroying my work, I've glassed the other wing and changed the servo connector over to my quick plug type. Both wings now flight ready (lacking a control rod in pics, hence the elevon position!)... just the belly left.

And, I've been wondering how best to make a small foot pedal release for the catapult that can be removed for storage, and doesn't mind what angle the ramp is at (since the angle is adjustable). I was walking around the hardware store the other day and I suddenly stopped and laughed... there was a MASSIVE oversized novelty clothes peg on the shelf and I had been hit with a moment of inspiration!

As it happens, it's perfect with a few little mods (please excuse the rough and ready appearance, it's just proof of concept thus far lol). The sprung nature also means it's very difficult for it to be depressed accidentally. Works great! Who would have thought... a clothes peg.... Crazy...

quick video (this end could do with being pegged down I think).

So what's left before maiden? Postman needs to deliver my EZUHF rx and my new higher powered bungees, I then need to run through some electronics setup again and make sure it's all working correctly. I also need to fit some wing retaining screws, Glass the belly, then go fly!
