Question regarding Maxi Swift and Battery size

    Greetings everyone!

I have a project to build an FPV platform with one maxi swift and i am choosing the batteries now.

For reference plane will have to support UHF LRS / vTX / CCD cam / GoPro / OSD.

I was thinking about putting 2 of these:

    dimensions and wieght are:
    138(L) x 44(W) x 28(H)mm

    340g

You guys think 2 of those will be too much?

    Hi,

I would say yes it's too much - I tried it (2 x zippy 4000mah 3s) and did not like that. Launch was not as easy as usual, and I don't remember the flight time to be that much longer. Had to fly with more amps, and giving a maxi swift (at least, mine) too much amps is kind of losing them. I got back to one 4000 3s battery.

Awessome! Thanks for the feedback! Maybe ill stick with 2x 2200 or 1x 4000, have to see wich set up would fit best, altho i tend to like the 2x batteries better than the 1x....

Keith is using a single 3S 5000mAh battery on his. I like his single big battery setup since he can more easily move a single battery back and forth than I can move two batteries when he doesn't have his gopro on board. See his here:

Thanks h0tr0d, i am a little bit of a fan of 2 packs mainly because if one fails i can rely in another at least to land in a safe spot. I dont plan to break any records regarding distance or altitude in fpv, but i do want to touch the clouds sometime, and if my plane drops from that kind of altitude straight to the ground, it will be hard to save anything.... you know, in this business i tend to think in the worst case scenario everytime

For what it's worth, I never heard or read about a lipo failure causing a crash or anything bad. I agree it may be safe to double some parts (I'm considering using a separate bec just in case my esc would fail and burn !) but going for 2 batteries just in case one fails seems too much too me.
This said, I have more experience reading forums than actually flying :-)
I don't think TBS goes for 2 lipos just in case one fails, but maybe I'm wrong.

It's always good to run a separate ubec instead of using the one in your bec. A ground loop can occur if you have a current sensing osd otherwise.

I have had a lipo fail that dropped the voltage below esc cutoff...I could still move the servos though. I guess redundancy does make a little sense, but a single battery setup is so much easier.

Many people use two batteries on their flying wings so that they can put one battery on each side of the wing joint. If they used one big battery, it would have to go in the middle, taking up space and reducing structural strength

You know that makes perfect sense, and i have never tought about it.

Now to decide 2x KongPower or 2x Hobby King ones.
