Thread: MyGeekShow - Building a Flying Wing for FPV/AP

    Welcome Nick to the show!

This week we tried to compare the Nova's max speed to the Raptor, however a radio Tx/Rx failure occurred during the Nova's takeoff, causing a massive crash that nearly destroyed the Nova. Never use a 5 year old cheap Tx/Rx on your handmade custom airplane.

We then tried to get a max airspeed for the Raptor, however our airspeed sensor continually gave suspect readings. We decided to go back to the drawing board to consider what we should do next.

A tough week, but it was a lot of fun having Nick on the show. More to come!

I thought that with an airspeedsensor like that, one tube has to face forward, the other backwards? I could be wrong though

On this week's episode of MyGeekShow we repaired the Nova after it's horrific crash last week, tested our airspeed sensor to see how accurate it is, raced the Raptor around the field trying to measure it's speed, and finally installed a camera on both the Nova and the Raptor. And I may have crashed the Nova again. Yeah. Not good.

This is a new format, and obviously longer. Let us know what you think!

On this week's episode of MyGeekShow we flew the Raptor and Nova, at the same time! The Nova flew great and has totally restored our faith in the "traditional" airframe setup. The Raptor flew good as well, however the prop fell off and got lost in the tall grass somewhere.

How do you prevent that from happening?

Tell us what you think of the new format!

On this episode we flew the raptor with several different props with a range in diameter and pitch. This is just the first stage of learning about how to choose the right prop diameter and pitch. In the future we will have to be more scientific about analyzing the power consumption vs. speed, but this was a fun way to get started!

    See you Wednesday,

On this episode of MyGeekShow we tested Expo's (exponentials) on our Flyer9x and determined our comfort level and the impact selecting Expo's has our flying ability. We also wanted to see how the Raptor would perform without vertical stabilizers, the results really surprised us!

    See you Wednesday,

I dunno why you guys are wasting your time with all these rudder ideas for your flying wing. Perhaps you don't have google in Arkansas but if you did you would have learned quickly that thrust vectoring, vertical stabilizers/rudders, etc DON'T WORK ON WINGS!!!!! Drag rudders are what you need. 9g servo on each winglet to move a drag flap. This is what the Hortens were doing in the 1930s.

Also, wing's don't have vertical stabilizers!!! They have WINGLETS, winglets act to keep the air flowing over the wing without spilling off the tip and increase lift and reduce drag. Removing them won't help you so stop trying.
