    Regulators

How are you guys powering your 12v video equipment when using 4S and above?

Also, out of these regulators, which is the best?

How does switching frequency and ripple voltage effect video signal quality?

I've only used two - the nghobbies that you have listed, and the TBS PSU.

The nghobbies I have a funny feeling about but I'll verify that this weekend, but it has other drawbacks.

If you have a magnifying glass handy when you solder the video on - use it because you'll need it, and the video wires go off at an angle so any movement causes the wires to break off if you move it more than a few times.

The TBS PSU is in my Zephyr and has been flawless, there's just piece of mind on it because it has worked, and it's easy to tuck with no right angle solder jobs on it...
In fact the holes and the pads for the wires are large enough you can easily solder it.

I don't have the experience that others do but that's my current experience - the NGHobbies has to be velcro'd out of the way but I have to be VERY careful not to bump it when I put a battery in the eZStar...I worry and verify every time I take that plane up, that my wire will break if something moves so I plan on replacing it with the TBS PSU very soon...(2 weeks till they get more)...

For the money, the piece of mind was worth it:

i dont understand what you mean about the wires coming off on an angle. from the look of the boards, they have the same through-hole pads to solder to... or even put a male connector to.

This doesn't exactly answer the OP but it is worth mentioning. If you are willing to fly with an IRC video transmitter and a 5V camera, you won't need any PSU's, regulators etc. Feed the VTX up to 4s power and it uses it's own regulator to power the VTX and it supplies power for a 5V camera. This is what I've been running on the old ez* and hopefully this week the radian pro.

Add our fingernail (pinky finger!) sized 12V stepup to that 5V output and you can run a 12V camera too!

Maybe a stupid question (but I don't have the answer so I'm thinking it's still worth asking): what's wrong with using the balance plug of the 4s lipo to get the 12v ? I mean, as long as the camera, osd, etc... can work from 3 full cells to 3 empty cells ?

Scotttu, the top left pads are for voltage output selection only.

A simple LC filtered 12V linear regulator if just powering a camera. All our Vtxs can be tied to a 2S-4S pack directly so no worries there, you just wire it in.
