    Ground Station and transport cases

I'm looking to DIY a ground station/transport case out of an old VHS Camera hardshell case. The case is the perfect size for holding my TX, Fatsharks, batteries, and probably a bunch of other stuff. It's about 8-10 inches thick and standard briefcase height and length. I'm pretty sure it will make a great transport case.

What I'm stuck on is the interior modifications. The case is empty of the original foam interior and ready for a replacement one, but I don't know what kind of foam is recommended for this purpose.

What do you guys use for this kind of thing?

Try looking for some Plick N pluck foam. You should be able to find a sheet which is big enough to fit your case and you can trim it to fit. Even if you can't you could build a divider and only use the plick and pluck foam on a smaller portion.

Alternatively just find some regular black foam and cut it to shape using a razor or carving knife, and use the razor to cut in spots for your equipment.

They are a supplier for the foam used in Pelican cases... give 'em a shout.

If you don't care about the color, JoAnn Fabrics sells foam by the yard for pretty cheap. Ask for "green foam". They have all different thicknesses and feels very close to the same as the pick and pluck stuff. You will have to cut it yourself, but here is another little tip for that. Find a cheap electric carving knife. This will slice through this kind of foam like butter!
