Protective case for 1.3ghz BluBeam antenna

I found info about using a ping pong ball for a 5.8ghz, but there is a huge difference in the size of a 1.3ghz.

Is the 2.4 & the 1.3 the same size?

I've already damaged Blubeam on my quad so I'm a little reluctant to buy a new one without figuring out a way to protect it.

No they are not the same size. 5.8 will fit inside one lobe on a 2.4 antenna and 2.4 will fit inside one lobe of a 1.3 antenna. Post a pic of the "damaged" one there is a possibility you could "fix" it they take quite a beating. I just slammed my 1.3 into the ground from 45 feet and it just needed to be tweaked back to 45degree angles.

Yeah I broke it. But I have Duck tape so its ok.

Actually it got whacked by a prop, so its missing sections I don't think there is anyway back.

So you think the antenna can take some punishment?

I know it can take punishment. I have put my plane in upside down a few times and every time just had to tweak the angles a little (ok a lot on one of those LOL) but it still works fine.

What kind of prop cut through copper clad steel wire? Or did it cut through the coax? That seems more likely.

1.3GHz is impossible to protect except to keep it clear of sipnning props. Mount it solidly so it cannot come loose and swing around. That is the best protection you can have for it.

If it is broken, fix it. if it isn't broken, I'll soon fix that.

i know it look funny .. but a dvd spindal is a perfect fit maybe u can improvise? thats what i use to transport.. a 50 disc spindal can cover the antenna but not the coax.. a 100 can but i only use it for transport not for flight .. but maybe you can come up with something

Well at keast now I have a good idea of what to store them in.I keep a selection of diffrent frequency antennas in my truck and always worry that the giant 1.3s will get damaged.
