    Cool Rootz Speed Racer Dragster

    Hey guys,

Bout time I gave myself a proper intro to Ground Pounders. You've probably seen some of my posts here and there but I thought I should say hi to all.

As I've outlined in other posts, I'm into RC car speed records and this year I'll be running a JC Dragworx dragster on 2S LiPo with a selection of 540 motors. I'll be running fixed-camera FPV in the dragster, along with a logging camera but I also have a Gorillamaxx Traxxas E-Revo running a Tekin RX8 and a Novak Ballistic 8 on 6S so that'll get a camera and pan/tilt before long. I'll post this an that in this thread. Hoping to go out testing tomorrow so should have some nice videos ( non FPV at the moment ) for you to look at.

Mean time, take a look at my E-Revo last time I ran it in speed record trim..

    Cheerz!

Nice man, the FPV speed record is unique and awesome. Hopefully you dont get to much camera shake while your pounding it.
    FPV is not a crime!

Glad you're interested, guys. Which one K_G? The dragster or the Revo?

The dragster is all-new so just shaking down at the moment. Should be good for 100mph+. Maybe 120 on 2S.

The Revo never reached its potential really. Ran on up to 12S with a Neu 1521/1.5D and some extreme gearing but was bloody undriveable!...

TBH, I bit of a tad more than I could chew with that one. The dragster is much more manageable.

12S on a 1.5 turn motor!!! How did the bearings stay put? I would think with that much voltage an inrunner would spin the bearing into oblivion in a matter of seconds.

If it is broken, fix it. if it isn't broken, I'll soon fix that.

Well, it was certainly close to its maximum capacity but then, that's what speed records are all about - Pushing the envelope. It's a 1900KV and I did fit it with ceramic bearings but never needed to as the most I ran it on was 10S.

It's happily enjoying its retirement now. Fitted with an RX8 and Novak Ballistic 8. The most it sees is 6S but it's still plenty fast.

really love the speed, but isn't it possible with something that's a bit more "versatile"? I mean for that thing to be fun on FPV you'd need to take it to the roads Is there a car that can do maybe half the speed on gravel?

Certainly is, Trappy. I've re-built the E-Revo back to (kinda) original spec. Well, some bits of the suspension are original!...

'Nother week or so should see it bumbling around and it should be no slouch. Biggest problem is trying to decide where to put the Pan/Tilt.

FPV in the dragster is pure practicality. It potentially gives me better run-up distance. In the Revo it'll be pure funtabulousness! I have an on-road set-up for it too, so that'll be good, so long as I can find a big enough car park!

put a 2.5W 1.2GHz on that thing and a UHF radio control and you could have some serious fun out in the woods. I know I hate answering these questions so I'd love to avoid asking them, but it's just too cool to resist: how long/far can you drive with these things? Would a 3 mile hike up a mountain and down be too much to demand from the batteries?
