Looks like you beat me to it, SS711. Sorry you crashed your plane... I am planning to fly up by the mine with my 600 one of these days. And up Guanella pass since I work close to up there and it's handy. Hardly any snow this year. I haven't been up to the mine yet this year... Was the road all open? Looks pretty dry.

Yep, road was completely open. Just a few pockets of snow in shaded areas. We went up the more difficult path with water crossings but came down the easier dry path.

I think this is the earliest this year that road has been open for a long time. I remember snow in July and August... Scary dry! I think I'll stay out of the trees for the most part in case something bad happens. Or maybe armor my lipos just in case.

My LiPo's were damaged enough that I'd be nervous charging them. The balance lead was cut on one of them.

I've resoldered plenty of balance leads... just put your charger outside for the next few charges if your nervous.

Was an awesome place to fly, I've been wanting to FPV there for quite some time and was cursing and kicking myself when I crashed so early. I will definitely be going back at some point with ground-station recording so I will at least have something to show for it, if it happens again.

I may not be back up in the air for a while due to an unfortunate personal situation... :-(
Sorry to hear about that on both accounts.
My guestimation is you hit the rocks about 40mph or more? that gopro is probably about 125-150 ft away (Or under those rocks in pieces)?

Thankfully it was not a GoPro. It was just a little $40 HK WingCam, so not a huge loss. It was on its last leg anyway, it had been through some crashes before and got a bunch of dirt on the sensor recently, but it would've been nice to recover the memory card to see the crash.

I feel for your loss man, had my cheap walmart cam fly off after the slo flyer hit the Ocotillo plant and landed some 50 ft away in a ravine under a rock. Traveled about 100 mi back to the spot the next morning and found it after another hour of searching. The video card was almost full and would have lost a couple hours worth of flying if i would have written it off. You might eventually find it, good luck.

Sometimes it's better to crash into a cliff face near by vs. running out of battery over the never ending forest.
