Thread: TBS USA Road Trip

  1. #511
I think most of this is due to miss-communication and mixed messages, having sponsors logos on your videos does not help as most (just like me) think that your commercially backed. I don't recall ever seeing that you fund all this out of your own pocket, kudos to you if you do. At the end of the day communication clears this type of thing up.
If your offended (which I understand) then you should bark out that you do this off your own backs, again I don't think most understand this.
As I said, I fly commercially and non-commercially hence why I think a "behind the scenes" video would be good, I'm well aware of what goes into one of these productions. We spend a good 10 hours for each 20min of footage we produce, let alone the costs involved.

I don't see why jealousy has anything to do with this, I respect TBS for what they do, I just don't like seeing all the bad press and community fall out (along with the lovers and haters pedantic and immature comments) that sometimes gets left in the wake. We run a community project and most of the kids we teach to fly come to us after being energised from seeing your video's, I respect that they are empowered, they see you as a road model and I think that sometimes you should sit back and take this onboard.
I'm done here, I hope that TBS keep on going, maybe you should become a commercial venture and sell out as the old saying goes, it might forge FPV even further, who knows.

TBS is a commercial venture. Our videos are not. We sell FPV gear for a living and we push the boundaries. In our spare time we go fly FPV. Sometimes we make a video about it.

I am not sure about what the "bad press" is you speak of? If you look at the events in a distanced manner: a sock puppet account on RCG has started a complaint about TBS, and the guys with grudge came in and called for our heads and accused us of doing things they couldn't even know that we commited - even if they were true. For what it's worth I consider that "business as usual". What I am offended about is that people are actually picking up on this and using it as basis for their argumentation.

In the danger of stating the obvious, we are not miscommunicating. We never said we were a commercial venture. You guys are saying we are, without even asking a question first. Same applies to a lot of the things that have been said about the grand canyon flights. Without ever asking we were flying loud planes next to park visitors and that's what got us into trouble, which couldnt be further from the truth. So, practically speaking, you guys are miscommunicating and blaming us for it

I am sensing some angst here… don’t get so pissed! I once watched videos of a guy who went by the name of LIPOpilot, he made really good videos, but he didn’t like getting annoying people so he quit his channel, deleted all his videos, and left the hobby. It was stupid because he quit because of those few a-holes that everyone hates. DON’T DO THIS! Some people are trying to be a-holes, just ignore them. some people are not trying to be a-holes but end up seeming like them, just tell them they are wrong and continue on. IT WOULD SUCK to have no trappy in this hobby! you were the inspiration for me and many others out there, we owe you one. I can understand why you are pissed, because so many people are just being weirdos that have no life, probably just jealous that you got to fly in the canyon but they didn't.

... didn't LIPOpilot scam one of the member's here out of $2,000 worth of FPV equipment? You can't compare the two.

Trappy, Hater's gona hate. You can't argue with an idiot, they'll just drag you down to their level then beat you with experience. We all know RCG is filled with em', that's why we stay here. All ya can do is say your peace and move on. Those who still argue have an ax to grind

haha yeah I was just gonna say isn't he the guy that scammed a couple of people well, in any case, haters do hate ... there is a difference though between the regular haters on RCG (Gary Evans, Octo, FPVPilot) and just some generally concerned folks. the haters are pushing completely the wrong message, I'm just there to bring the discussion back to facts so that generally concerned folks can make informed decisions. which way they stand on the issue is entirely up to them, I'm not one to convince someone to think in one direction or the other, as long as that decision is based on facts.

After reading the discussion cover to cover (haven't before this) they are just pissed off at you specifically. Go figure lol. I saw Crash9's videos a while back and he even mentioned in one of them that he got a visit from the rangers. Ya made your point, anyone with half a brain can see the difference between the two sides. Just try not to loose your cool. lol

By the way, what happened in VA?

Lipopilot aka james "da" pain was contracted to build a FPV rig for a member and disappeared with all of his equipment, plane, and money. When the guy tried to track him down and get the police involved, he made a public statement about how it should be legal to gun down internet 'tards and posted some pics of guns or something on his blog/twitter. After that the investigation was halted and LIPOpilot got out of the hobby. Its the highlights at least, there were a lot more details.

So everybody isn't confused on the borderline between the amateur fpv cult icon trappy and the commercial suit trappy this may make things clear:

TBS Old catch phrase on fpvlab banner advertisement (where presumably no money changed hands):

"Watch our videos and buy the gear we fly at team-blacksheep.com"

Will be changed to the following:

"Watch trappy's personal logo-plastered non-commercial non-advertisements and then buy the TBS gear he flys so he can make more logo-plastered non-commercial non-advertisement videos. This arrangement allows TBS to keep advertising costs down and keep trappy flying in exotic locations in his personal time."
