They are all built like this. I suppose you could but that is what the wood risers are there to prevent. They give stand off to allow for mounting options. I have had mine for a couple months and haven't broken it.

Well its a bit for protecting it from impact with something and also because I'm afraid after the coaxial cable moves around enough with packing and unpacking with use that it will eventually break free. So do you think the hot glue would interfere with it or be ok?
Actually I had to break off one riser on each of my two antennas because they don't allow the VRx to fit when mounted to the back...so the VRx acts as one of the risers.
This is my 2.4Ghz LHCP crosshair which I can add to my IBCrazy-antenna-collection.
I have not had time to try this one jet, but I hope for good results.
Question 1: the height of the wire above the reflector.
Is this measured from the top, the middle or from the bottom of the wire? (bottom = in between wire and reflector)
Question 2: the crosshair looks like the rx Turnstile RX UHF antenna. But the turnstile antenna has obviously no reflector plate.
Is this antenna basically the same as that of the crosshair?
The turnstile does not seem to be very popular, is a reason for that? To me it look a perfect rx UHF antenna.
Thank you Alex for all your beautiful designs! Keep going.

Its the average across the wire.

No it is not the same. The turnstile shifts polarity across the Z axis.
Looking at what you have I personally think you will be ok without it. I don't see you moving the wire that often and bashing something into it seems a bit unlikely since there is all the other equipment attached and the mount is permanently screwed to the antenna. I think there is enough there to allow it to survive.
If it is broken, fix it. if it isn't broken, I'll soon fix that.

Your antenna looks very good. I think you will like it.
Q1 - Middle of the wire.
Q2 - It was designed starting with a turnstile, yes. However, the Crosshair uses a balun to balance the antenna (which isn't possible with a turnstile) and uses the reflector to maintain the proper circular direction. It also uses different wire length calculations due to reflective interactions with the reflector plate.
