TBS Zeiss Cinemizer ... battery monitor mod

    Hi,

I've chosen to fly with the Zeiss Cinemizer as per recommendation by Trappy, i have to say that I was really happy I've taken that route.. the only problem is you actually don't know how much left in the battery ... it lasts almost 3:40 hrs... but I thought I should ask this question here as I'm sure Team Black sheep use Zeiss Cinemizer goggles and for sure has already done something about that issue ..

So Can someone please enlighten me .. and tell me how to do that battery monitor mod ??

    Thanks a lot

well, the newer versions of the battery will include a monitor (the HD version). in the meantime, we have purchased a solar USB charger that we always attach to the goggles while flying. they can be double-side-taped to the battery box itself. Keeps the goggles full all the time.

second mod we have done is use RJ45 connectors from the ground station to the goggles. We use a 5V BEC on two of the lines of the RJ45, and feed that directly to the USB socket (at the inside). this simulates a constant charging circuit. Plug in the RJ45, you get video and instant charging. pretty neat

Where can you even buy the cinemizer goggles anymore? I can't find.any site that carries them.

    Has anyone modded the cable?

The one thing I really don't like is putting the little control box in my pocket, I tape the AV input but it doesn't seem that clean of a setup.

you can shorten it, but it requires some serious soldering skill. then you can just tape it to the top of the cinemizers, or ski goggles. if you're not comfortable with shortening it, I suggest to just buy big ski goggles you can lace the excess cable into the inside of the ski goggles and secure with a drop of hotglue. the battery box should sit on top of the ski goggles in any case.
