I have 4 primary goals today:
    1. Convert quad radio from 2.4 GHz to 72 MHz
    2. Test quad
    3. Repair and install FPV system
    4. Test FPV system
I only have ~3 hours of "business" I have to accomplish today.

I'll probably start posting some questions again soon.

This is exciting - woo hoo!

Finally figured out was was wrong with the quad - will be finishing steps 3 & 4 tomorrow . . .
    1. DONE --> Convert quad radio from 2.4 GHz to 72 MHz
    2. DONE --> Test quad
    3. Repair and install FPV system (repair is DONE)
    4. Test FPV system
I was totally delighted the quad is flying PHENOMENALLY!!! I had to reverse the AIL, ELE & RUD but it was easy to figure out with the "trainer" landing gear attached to the base.

Tomorrow, Thursday, 28-Jun-2012 will be my first ever aircraft FPV experience! Woo hoo!

Sorry for the horrible photo - I just slapped on the GoPro, balanced the machine quickly and then started flying. It was getting dark.

    Hello

I'm in the process of installing my FPV system - does this look right?

    My main questions

#1 --> Are the antennas for the 5.8 GHz system: one antenna is a "3 clover" and the other is "4 clover" (or whatever) - is that correct?

#2 --> I was planning on using a 3S battery for both the FatShark goggles as well as flying the quad - sound good?

    Many thanks,

    Brad

Well, it didn't go very well.

It was very late in the day and I prheaked out - I doubt I was in the air more than ten seconds - does that count?

There were three attempts - each pretty much was just a hop and near tip-over until the last effort when I flipped completely upside down. It was quite difficult to see - I'm guessing because of the low light - the sun was probably near the horizon but the hill completely blocked the view of the sun.

After the last flight when I tipped over, I pulled off the goggles, inspected the quad and flew four battery packs around the field using LOS - I was flying probably much faster than I should have. That was fun but I was constantly reminded of the failure of this experience.

When I do this again, I guess I should do three things different:
    • Select a brighter time of day
    • Point the aircraft towards me (it kept hopping closer and closer to me - after the second failed flight, I pulled the goggles up and was surprised to see how close I was to the quad - yipes)
    • Take off dammit - no more hopping
The quad is "near rock steady" so I really don't have any excuses except getting over my fear.

Oh well, at least the machine isn't damaged - it's ready for tomorrow.

    Thanks,

    Brad

It'll be a while again before I can resume this project as the doctor wants me to return to my "vacation palace" for two days, followed up with a week or so in the rehab facility.

    Damn it sucks getting old.

Okay - I'm not dead, ready to get back into this stuff

I can see okay and motor control is good enough - flew a few battery packs with the metal quad two nights ago (LOS).

    Thanks

I have a similiar problem, it's a mental thing (Or maybe camera) - I flew r/c helis and my Tri just fine LOS but looking through FPV was kind of weird....

    LOL

I meant my eyes are getting better and my hand-eye coordination is not what it was but I can still slam the sticks around good enough to keep from crashing.
