The issue came in when I was overriding Ruby it only saw small stick movements because my rates were so low.
now this could be fixed in the software, but I figured it would be better to lower my rates using the control horns down to what everyone else seems to be using .5" up and .5" down... So, I tried the 8.5" CG with the new smaller rates. and it worked fine.
in my last video with the big wind I was using the smaller rates and 8.5" CG.
Jim is using 1" up and 1" down for his control surfaces and 8.5" for his CG. I think he tried the 9 3/8" but liked the 8.5" better...
But that makes sense with 2" total movement...
So, I am using 1" total movement now and I am going to try 1.5" with the 8.5" CG next.

I guess the short answer in cuz Jim said so.

threw my ZII into the ground

well, I threw my ZII into the ground last night and broke the motor shaft... ya, not sure how that happened. so I turned the motor around and mounted it on the outside of the mount. but now I need to add some weight to the front to get it to balance.

I was trying to do the auto launch and trying a new throw at the same time... well I bumped the throttle off of full and down it went. No damage to the wing.

Going to try it again tonight. This time full speed ahead!!

If it auto launches well maybe I will just put the remote on the ground... can't bump it that way.

as some of you may know, I lost my z2 last month and I have been searching relentlessly for it. I got a call on Sunday that a lady found the plane and I went out to retrieve it. Unfortunately it was just the folded up and mangled z2. The Ruby, esc, motor, matteries, vtx and almost everything was missing. It did still have the servos and the Dragon link attached. The dragonlink RC still works! The Servos still work. Once I found the plane I was able to draw a path from the plane back to where I lost video. After a few searching, I have found the Motor, ESC and THE RUBY!! That means flight data! yay! Anyhow, its important to point out that the RUBY could NEVER have brought this plane home. It completely disintegrated and the debris path was more than a mile long. I believe my search is over. It feels good to have recovered all of this stuff and to finally know exactly what happened. Apparently the camera broke loose which broke the prop which caused the motor to violently tear the plane apart due to being unbalanced. The plane just folded in half because it was traveling at 115 mph and probably changed direction abruptly. It was 3826 feet AGL and it was windy. That is why the plane was a mile from the incident. Closure is good...

wow, sounds like ruby was like your "little black box" that full scale airliners use. Glad you got everything back, does the ruby still work too?

Ruby helped me finally figure out what happened. The ruby could have been an R2 unit and would still have had no chance for recovery. This was a catostrophic fail of the worst kind. I'm just glad I found it all. It has been a MAJOR challenge to find all of this equipment. Now that I know what happened, in to the next one. I have a Z2 flying now and I have another in the box waiting for a build. It will be epic!

great news on finding everything. How was your Ruby behaving? LOL
Had you got the auto launch working? or the auto landing...?

I have not had anything in the air for a month. but this weekend I have a bunch to test out...

What do your throws measure at full up and full down? (stick in the corners)
Are you using expo or reduced rates?
    Where is your CG?
How is the auto launch working?
    What is your throwing "style"?

This has got to be the cleanest build I have seen yet! WOW!

I run in some problems with the magnetic field/barometric sensor and had to place it in three different positions. Thanks to Jim and his excellent support. He reviewed data while I was doing magnetic field sweeps a couple of times.
Turned out the sensor don't likes these tiny powerful magnets which are used to keep hatches closed. I had to remove all from the plane. Also the cheap Chinese blind nuts (holding the canopy in place) are a good source for magnetic fields.

    1. My throws are set up the way Jim recommends...full up and full down.
    2. I use expo only at about 40% both elevator and aileron.
    3. Not using Auto Launch yet.
    4. Throw like a baseball keeping her nice and level. Just look at my most recent 7 mile flight. In the beginning I toss her just as described. Works pretty good though I get nervous every time
