ezOSD aquiring satellites... Problem getting Satellites at all with FPV Cam?

    Hi guys,
I'm new here and like alot what tons of info I just found here!

Hope you can point me to my problems with the ezOSD:

I wanted to install ezOSD in the nose of my new EasyStar2 to get a nice longrange plane again.

I found on the first testflight - that even after 10mins I had no satellites.
Also I had a mature video fropout on this first LOS testflight in just 100m distance (normally going easy 2km with this setup ov vtx...).

    Facts:
the ezOSD worked before on other planes

If using the FOXTECH FPV Cam connected to the ezOSD - I get no sats!
If disconnected it takes around 1,5min for the sats to come (maybe 2mins to have 5+ sats?).

I also tried a more expensive IF OSC cam (480tvl lines) on the same setup - same result - if the cam is near (10-15cm) to the GPS Sensor - no sats! I had no cable to get the cam further away from the sensor. I had the GPS Sensor around 20cm max away (using the longer GPS cable that comes with the ezOSD)

The VTX is quite far (50-60cm?) - so this shouldn't be a problem!

I'd really like to start using ezOSD again (for longrange, voltage check and orientation) but at the moment I think about leaving it out for simplicity (just like my tricopter FPV setup which was easy and very successfull this year!).

But on the other hand - the ezOSD cost some bucks - so I should use it!

Question: can one prolong the GPS Sensor-cable using normal servo wires to mount it out far on the wing?

And: I use Thomas Scherrers LRS here for Radio - can this influence OSD? the receiver is in the middle of the plane (under the wing)

    Thanks for any help,
    BR,
    RCSchim

    damn you're fast! :-)

BUT: I also get no sats if using the "better" IF OSC 480 TVL cam also.

Btw: I'm pretty impressed by the picture quality of this cheap FPV cam! It's 39$ I think and has very sharp image quality (520tvl).

Same thing, noisy cameras, disconnect the camera and watch the screen, sats should appear quickly. Are you using a stepup to power the camera?

The Cam get's the power from the VTX (avionics rc 500mw I think). This again get's the 12v from the powercable out of the ezOSD current sensor.

and this is the cam: http://www.foxtechfpv.com/cm210-high...era-p-294.html

and here is my VTX: http://shop.righthere.nu/fpv-transmi.../prod_955.html

    OK thanks - looks good!
But you suggest not to extend cables along the fuse - on the other hand I thought having VTX all the way back was a good idea? I even soldered the video cables in an computer network cable - to get a clean installation. But in the small canopy of the ES2 I have ezOSD cables, cam cables and battery cables messed together... Will be hard seperating them...

Thanks anyways for great and lightning fast response!

    Greetings,

I'd need pictures to see whether your cabling is at fault here, but it doesn't hurt to twist the GPS and camera cable.

I may have the same issue

    Hi

I really appreciate having a look at my setup to diagnose why GPS receiver is taking too much time to acquire satellites .. actually it never acquired any no matter how long I waited ..

After reading this thread .. I suspect something is wrong with how all the wires are routed along the fuselage ... Please have a look at the photos ..

Yes I think I have a rat nest of wires .. The power cables , OSD cables, and servo cables, all run side by side ..

My R/C link is 2.4 Ghz Futaba FASST

AV link 1280 Mhz with CL/SPW antennas

VTX is 300mw by RMRC with a low pass filter
I use a power filter from DPCAV to supply clean power the Video gear

I've attached the wiring diagram .. hopefully with no ground loops

Any advice is greatly appreciated .... I really need to make the process of acquiring satellites performed quickly and reliably ..

Thanks a lot for your help

    Khaled

    @Khaled,

Are we going to see your query be posted all over the internet now? In every topic that has some relevance to the issue you are seeing?

Your plane is a RF nightmare, with long cables running all over, picking up RF, also on the sensitive GPS receiver.

I would suggest starting with a new EzStar and route it cleanly this time. Ask for advice on the wiring etc. prior to starting. It helps to first lay everything out on the workbench and making sure it all works before putting it all in the plane.
