    Hi there,

i've purchased the Layerlens at the end of January, but didn't have a good use case until now. So i've build it together, which went straight forward. When applying the screws though it broke on one side :-( They were pretty hard to screw in, and at some place it got broke. Apart from that i think this is a great product!

Not technically a crash picture, but the GoPro that gets knocked off the table near the end is protected by LayerLens

This one is a crash picture. Broke a prop and the GoPro ejected but no damage. GoPro wears a LayerLens.

Thanks for posting. Glad LayerLens kept your lenses protected.

So I spudded my ZII into the dirt on a tip stall during landing... Ugh. The layer lens for the GoPro box did its job - it protected the lens but shattered into 10 pieces.

One gripe I have is that the LCD is unprotected, there is a hole cut into the delrin and thus allowed the rapidly approaching dirt to "kiss" the LCD - killing it.

I recommend that future designs cover the LCD. A little extra weight = use your GoPro hero2 hd again. unlike me.

Still glad I could test the kit for you. Sorry no pics of me crying over it.

    Matt

I am not sure which LayerLens you are talking about. The TBS/LayerLens covers the entire front, including the LCD, like this:

Can you post a picture of the product you're using? Are you using the standard LayerLens? Like this:

Your right Tim it was covered. Guess I thought it wasn't as I took the shards away, some of which had already fallen off.

Please disregard that recommendation as it appears you went back in time and fixed it before it could occur.

    Unhappy LayerLens failed

I've been using my LayersLens on my Skywalker and on my Z2 for quite some time with great success. This time I wasn't so lucky. I hit some power lines and fell in the street with the gopro landing right on the lens. I guess it was too much for it. The LayerLens was broken and my gopro2 had a crack inside the lens. I never did find the actual lens the LayerLens was holding. You can't see if from the pics at the end of the video but the white part of the LayerLens is broken too.

In slowmo you can see the layerlens coming off but the gopro is already busted.

@Cabster101 -- I am very sorry about your crash. While LayerLens can protect your lens in many instances, a direct impact on asphalt with the plane pushing its weight straight down is difficult. In your crash, looks like the glass lens also broke, which likely would have happened even if the GoPro was in the full case. The black part of LayerLens most likely cracked like it did because of the expanding glass lens ripping everything apart. Again, sorry that this crash pushed LayerLens over its limit and your GoPro was lost.
