It doesn't protect a drawing / diagram demonstrating the idea?
Post office stamp date will be given by the mailing people right?
Thanks
I've got this design for an impeller (for generator) genius

If you come out with these IBCrazy, I'm gonna convince the local guys to build a whole fleet of WWI planes to mount them on and have us some old school dogfights!
Sadly, it doesn't. What you can do on the cheap is make some very detailed drawings and have them notarized then fab up a quick prototype and date stamp it. This will give you a good bit of protection even if you don't have a patent. Be sure to write copywrite: name/date on the drawing at the time of notarization. Send only the notarized copies.

If it is broken, fix it. if it isn't broken, I'll soon fix that.

Also just some help on materials
I think am abandoning this generator, idea though I am keeping one key aspect which I think is truly genuine
Anyways, for my demonstration / product
I need to have a belt system to drive two annular rings / disks such as the image depicted below.
I plan on using a Park 480 to drive the two rings
What kind of a belt and what material would work? Assuming for cheapness in production, we use something like PVC pipes to create the annular ring
Would some kind of rubber band work? And where would I find a 3mm (is that what a park 480 shaft is? or maybe it's 4mm I need to look) but basically if the belt could be a V-belt that would be better, especially with the teeth, though are there custom sizes or should one opt for a pre made...
I'm looking to use wood which is a relatively easy material to work with (no welding / casting required)
Once a drawing is notorized (for the concept) can you change it later on (due to experimental results) ?

Is there any reason to consider using a program/service like "freepatentsonline" ?

Green ACE - Any public notary can take care of the notarization. Banks usually have several on staff.
You can use this forum to help you with your idea. Once it goes public, figure out if you still want it open source. If you don't, tell admin and they'll delete this thread. If you do, keep going. If I can help you, I will.

Thank you very much
I appreciate that willingness to help (as if you haven't in the pass already)
So a bank won't look at me weird if I ask them to notorize a drawing then? Well I will find out today.
[I looked into this, called them, they explained that all that they notorize is a verification of who I am, ie a signature being genuine]
Is this what you mean?
-----------------Question(s)------------------
If I do have a drawing notorized, what is my protection when posting a sketch on the web?
I plan on getting a drawing of the 'concept' notorized but not the exact layout the particular device will be the same no matter what configuration but applications / power input to drive the system can be variable.
What if I get a drawing notorized, and then I can post a video of the prototype in action?
Am I safe to do that?
------------------------
About the "date stamping" what does that mean? Do I date the machine itself ? Sorry if this is a dumb question but I don't understand.
Any idea on the belt? I'm going to develop a small prototype and perform some simple experiments just to see but so far my idea is genuine, I have been searching around, so far the idea is sound as far as fluid dynamics goes, my professor tells me it is a good idea and he is also an engineer.
Anyways more research and time
Thanks again guys for all your contributions
Who knows... if I get rich one day, I'll get a hold of you guys hahaha (but don't hold your breath) Still I would like to meet some faces though and fly some FPV as well
