39'' Blunt MS Composite Swift 2 - An FPV dream.

I have been flying the Swift 2 for quite some time and have been having an absolute blast with it. I decided to take it to another level and build a FPV dream Swift 2. I thought it may be cool to make a Blunt section.

After asking on the forums Derek_S was nice enough to cut me a 7'' blunt section I traced out the airfoil and sent it out to him and got a beautiful piece of EPP back. If anyone wants one send him a PM I believe he is selling them for $20 shipped. Do me a favor though and contact him through PM and not in this thread, I dont really want this to become a "sales" thread. Thanks

My #11 cam and Flight cam will be sitting side by side. I could be wrong but I have looked around everywhere and found nothing so I do believe that this is the first ever Blunt Nose Swift 2.

I will be adding an FY20a II stabilizer to her since I've had one sitting around forever. My dream is to get a RV5 on her because after seeing Vova from RVs Swift2 with RV5 I couldn't believe the sweetness. But that's going to have to wait.

Edit: Dream came true, lol. RVosd5 added.

I am running this one off of a single battery.

    GForce E400 Outrunner
    25a Hobbywing ESC
    Dragonlink RX
    2700mah 3s lipo

    ReadymadeRC 540 lpi Ultimate cam
    RVOSD5
    300mw 1280 vtx
    Inverted vee antenna

    260 degree Pan Servo

I will be adding pics of the build on Friday since tomorrow I will be in a turkey coma from Thanksgiving.

EDIT: 18 pages into the thread here are the birds we got so far.

    More photos~!

Both wing halves were glued to the center blunt section, Using a straight edge I cut new holes into the EPP for the servos further back then the stock holes to make up for the additional weight I will be adding to the front. I used Dubro metal push rods with Dubro EZ connectors. This is important, The stock pushrods are thin and flimsy. Ditch them and get Dubro.

I added my Dragon Link RX out on the left wing, it is 100% embedded into the foam, I am using PPM so the only wires connected between it and my RVOSD is the PPM and RSSI. After the wires were embeded into the foam and connected I laminated over it. The DL antenna is running up my winglet and hangs loosely out the bottom.

My VTX is out on the right wing far away from the DL RX, its a little overkill at 500mw but I am using all my smaller TXs on my quads and had this one laying around. Same thing, connected all the wires embedded them into the foam and then laminated.

The RVOSD was an unexpected surprise that was added after the build was complete so I relocated the battery to the belly, Greg Silver cut me some great skid plates out of G10 (pictured below) fo the battery has plenty of protection. The RVOSD5 was centered on the top of the plane, the current sensor and ESC are on the belly, embedded and laminated over. The only thing popping out is the tip of the XT connector.

I am very satisfied with this build, It is one of the cleanest planes that I own.

I epoxied her together last night, inserted a CF rod on her belly, and laminated the LE with 3mil.

Here's a shot of her together, she looks so clean.

Uhm .... Epoxy and EPP don't go together well, for the simple reason EPP is (as the name implies) polypropylene, which can only really be glued with contact cement or polyurethane based glues or CA. Epoxy will lose its bond with the EPP quickly. One way to make sure it stays on a little longer is to roughen both surfaces with coarse sandpaper. My fav glue for EPP is CA, the thicker kind for joining wing sections, the thin kind to wick into every nook and cranny, apply some kicker and it'll go together quickly.

That entire midsection should get lam - w/ the elevons so far outboard it's really gonna stress your epoxy out - especially after adding weight to the midsection. Can you highlight where you put the CF rod?

Sassy mon' no worries, I wicked CA in there shes solid. The CF rod is also holding her together, aaannnnnddddd..... Yes Sentry the plan is to laminate the mid section on the top and the bottom I just got tired last night and passed out. So she is definitely not falling apart. Photo of the CF below, couldn't put it further back because it would have been in the way of my motor mount.
