Would anyone be interested in a Relay Flight category? It appears this was discussed before but if we came up with a simple set of rules it could work.

Category is for two pilots only, must return home
Pilot 1 takes off and flies to the halfway point
Pilot 2 takes over halfway and flies to the destination
Ground crew at destination swaps out to a fresh battery
Pilot 2 takes off and flies halfway back
Pilot 1 takes over halfway and flies back home.

I think it makes sense if you limit it to two pilots only. If you use more than two it gets hard to establish a standard set of rules and becomes difficult to categorize. It could be under the "Special Challenges" list.

You know that having signal at ground level 100km away is impossible? Well, almost. It is possible if pilot number 2 is on a mountain.
So how would you see this? If you leave out the batteryswap, than pilot 2 can fly to destination and back to halfway pilot 1. But then would the battery be the limiting factor, not the range of video or rc. Hence you wouldn't need a second pilot.

Well done! 13km is quite an achievement with 4400mah 3S! My "light" setup is 4s 8500mah! Also video is stunning so far out on 2.4!

i think he means that pilot 2 and ground crew are at the same destination..

    Yes, exactly.

I'm not sure what other poster meant. It sounded like he was talking about flying out to a mountaintop, landing on that, and then taking off again and coming back. Which would be something completely different from 2-pilot relay flight.

I was just doing some testing of some tweaks to my little qx80, which resulted in pushing out the 1s brushless distance a bit more to 650m. At this point I ran out of field though.... I think there's 1km possible though.

Here's a rather lengthy video explaining changes and stuff
