Thread: What frequency is this antenna tuned to?

What frequency is this antenna tuned to?

Together with a lot of other stuff I ordered the cheap HK 2.4GHz patch antenna and would like to know what frequency it's tuned to?

The top part is the active element and the bottom is the ground element I guess but this is not connected to the rear plate as I thought it would.

it's probably tuned to 2450 as most of the "commercial" 2.4GHz antennas. I'm not good with the maths, though, so this is just a guess.

The only way to know for certain is to run it through an antenna analyzer or possibly even a spectrum analyzer. Do you know anybody in the cellular tower construction industry? Most crews have antenna analyzer gear. OR...your could go by a local tech school and see if their RF lab would be kind enough to "Sweep" it for you. I have purchased antennas that claim to work for a specified frequency, but when swept, it shows to be most effective at a higher or lower frequency. Just a thought......

I agree with Avenger. There really is no way to tell without testing it. It appears to be a microstrip fed parallel patch. The two parallel plates on the top for a microstrip transmission line.

Thanks! I have some colleagues that have a nice lab, in which I've RFI-tested some of my models before. But since I'm currently on parental leave until august I guess it'll take some time until I can do that. I will use some of my abundant extra time (yeah right) to make some other antennas though.

    I also bought that antenna.
Boopidoo did you get to any conclusion about the freq.?
