Thread: New molded Ritewing Zephyr II

I have a very similar setup to you .. the 2 x 4000 mAH Nanos. Where are you planning on putting your flight controller? I intend putting it in the bay nearest the motor.

I found that with the batteries in the location that you used the COG was well forward. I cut a battery width slot in one side of the main bay - about 1 inch deep and then hinged this. Once this is in place the batteries can be slipped in sideways and then moved to the back of the main bay .. so you have 2 batteries sideways on. This gave me lots of leeway for changing the COG.

@brosius...we'll see how she finishes out! I see your points in other threads on the folders. I had access to a 5mm spinner, so I grabbed it as well. That APC prop should work fine though, right? If I go to a tractor prop I'll have to switch motor directions, but I think that's about it?

@splashy...I'm waiting on another dragonlink Rx, and then I'm going to set the antenna, lam it, and then probably crash it. I've honestly been expecting to add some rear weight due to the 4s and a gopro. But if I understand your idea right, it's damn good as well. Your batteries are carved in further back, PERPENDICULAR to the line of flight?

Are you using a go pro , if so with those bats you will mostlikely be a little on the nose heavy side.
That is a good way to mount them though!

Also have an APM2 that works *awesome* in a quad with the latest code...The guys are doing some great work for open source.

BUT, I wanted to post a few pics of my ZII build, and see if I've got the right idea. Once I get a few LOS on this baby, she'll get the APM1.

Stock ritewing motor build with 2x 4s 4000 batteries. I have a folding prop spinner, but having a hard time finding the 9x6 aeronaut. I appreciate any feedback.

I am actually using 2x 4s 4000mah as well. I'll be mounting mine in the leading edge of the wings and using them to balance the CG. Hopefully they don't have to slide too far out on the wings :s

I have not build mine yet but I don't find the idea to cut inside hole for the battery is a good idea... you will be force to remove everything in the compartment to remove battery... or you have another options?

what else are you planning to put in the main bay except batteries?

esc goes in the rear bay, osd will slot in somewhere else out of the way, RX is likely to be out on the wing, as is the Vtx..... you should be able to pull the batts straight out.

Looks like you might have some structural integrity issues too.
With those slots being cut so close to the leading edge of the wing.

That is my worry with what he has done. The large battery bay is already a massive chunk of foam out the top, he's just taken 2 more chunks out and I bet the foam goes down to to 2cm or less around the leading edge.

I have the same set up. with the batteries just outside the bay. it works great and it is still strong... I have bounced mine several times. But, you still need to slide the batteries in... so anything you mount in the center bay will be in the way when you slide the batteries in. unless you are going to make it removable or sink it in to the floor of the bay.
    just letting you know.
