Help - I hate my GPS

I am so green with envy right now. I flew with Sentry and Trappy and they had to wait no more than 20 seconds for a GPS lock. I need to wait 3-4 minutes at least, sometimes more than 10! Sometimes I don't even get a GPS lock and fly anyway.

Last night it took me 8 minutes to get GPS lock. It took Sentry's Skylark no more than 8 seconds. What gives? Are all of my GPS just garbage?

I need a recommendation on a good GPS for my Remzibi OSD. I can make my own harness if I have to, but I'd rather avoid it of I can. Any recommendations?

    Thanks,

    -Alex

Try the Locosys LS20031 - or try a backup battery for your GPS.

I'm sure you would have thought of this already, but do you have a ferrite ring on the gps cable? Apparently it can improve how quick your gps locks on, although I don't know why.

Yes I have 0.8" ferrite ring with 9 turns on it on each of my GPS. I did a frequency sweep of my airplanes. I get a spike at 510 MHz from my cameras, but that's it.

I'll check the Lycosys. Any other suggestions to try?

    Thanks,

I guess I should add that 5 Hz is more than enough. heck, even 1Hz is probably fine. I don't neeed a 10Hz GPS. I don't use tracking, RTH or anything fancy. I just need to find my way home.

if you don't have a battery, its normal to have lock times > 1 minute. 2-3 sounds ok.
its the time it needs to download the satellites data.
with a battery, first time will take 2-3mins, but subsequent times are around 20 to 40s.

phones are faster because they get refreshed data from the network and can lock in 10s or so usually (not all of them).

finally, if you change flying location and there are different satellites, it will take a few mins again of course.

Ive used a couple of GPS before but i'm also currently using the LS20031 with backup battery - locks in about 20-40s with the cache.

There are a few posts here about adding a backup battery to the gps that comes with remzibi

It hapenned to me when flying with 1.3GHz. I changed to 2.4GHz, and the lock is really fast.
When I was using 1.3GHz, I used to place a metal sheet between the video Tx antenna and the GPS until it locked. It helped a lot.

Even with my VTX and camera powered down it sometimes will not lock. Does the OSD have anything to do with the lock speed?
