My R/C range sucks hairy b@ll$.

Well...

I´ve been trying to solve this problem in many ways but I just can´t seem to get it right.
I have been flying PCM for some 15+ years. Since FPV, I´ve pushed my PCM to 2 miles in urban environment with no issues at all, very happy with that.
I´ve been listening around and most get incredible range out of their Coronas and also the PPM glitching warning before losing it completely.
Have a new DOSD and also am developing the PPM decoder both which require me flying in PPM mode....
Ordered a new synthesized Corona from HK.
To my surprise, got glitching @ 500 meters ( pretty bad )...
Ground range check is about 30 meters with or without Vid gear.
Switched to a Futaba dual conversion 8Ch.
A bit better but not good. Today I had a glitch when approaching 50 meters from me... Ground tests on the beach with nothing around me was 30-40 meters, and maybe a few more w/o Video gear.
Plane is a wing and RX/TX are about 1 meter apart from each other.
Servos are maybe the only thing I haven´t changed.



TX: Futaba 9CHP - 3s lipo powered. ( could this have damaged my TX slightly? )
RX´s: Corona RP8D1 / Futaba R148F
Vtx: 300 mW 1.2 Ghz
SC2000 690 tvl pixim camera.

what could be wrong?
what are your ground tests results?
any suggestions?

My Futaba R148F rx gave me like a half mile max and on my corona RP8D1 I was able to go a little over a mile with one of them and only like 500 feet with the other.

Well, that´s more or less what I am getting... thanks AB for letting me know I´m not a complete FPV noob.

Strange. I would definitely scan the band with a handheld scanner to make sure that you are not in particulary noisy area. It should not suck that much normally :/

How is the antenna routed through the plane? Also - why don't you try modifying the Corona for range??

Yeah thats your best bet to modify the antenna, or if you dont want to do that and dont want to shell out for a UHF order like 3 coronas and use the best one. They have terrible quality control so some are way better then others.

RX close to winglet with ant hanging loose. LOL, I already step on the stock length antenna on a regular basis... I'd be happy to try the mod, might give it a try and report back.
