Fatshark RCV922 aviator edition 2010 + ImmersionRC ezOSD Good start ?

    Hi,

i was never much into rc until i saw fpv and now im fixed

I'd like too start slow, so my first plane will be a slighly pimped easystar. The plan is to start without fpv until i get a feeling for the thing.

I dont want to spend too much money twice so im trying to start with stuff that can be upgraded to match furture needs. My rc will be a used graupner mx16s 35mhz, it should work fine for start and be a good base for uhf mods.

On the FPV part to start with low cost the Fatshark RCV922 aviator edition 2010 seems to be a good deal:

Much cheaper than in germany. Should work fine for first flights up to 1km. Later on i could upgrade with external receivers and antennas.

When i go fpv i want to use a osd right from the start. I found this one in the same shop, again much cheaper than in germany:

After all i did read in this and other forums a solid osd, also gives the option of antenna tracking later on. They only thing im missing is the possibility to get a rth funktion :/

Long story short question, does anything speak against the two items i did pick ?

    Ps. Sorry for my english

I'd forgo the OSD for right now. Just do proper pre-flight and flight-plans via Google Earth. Mark your ranges and go for it. The FS Aviators are a GREAT start - that keeps things very simple - just take plane, goggles and recorder to the field - and you can get about 3 miles range on the video in most environments - but RESPECT YOUR RC link.

This page will help you to modify your rx for more RELIABILITY. Not I said RELIABILITY, not RANGE. This means, don't try to find the end of yoru RC link - modify the antenna to just maje sure that you are rock solid within reasonable range. This is not a substitute for a proper LRS.

    thank you for the reply.

i'd like to start with osd mainly for orientation and recovery not to go as far as possible. beside the money is there any technical issue with paring the aviator set with this osd ?

each component adds possible failure and complexity. its easier to start without the OSD and add it later when you have everything working (which always takes a flew flights and trial&error, unless you get it made by a guy who has a working setup, with the same plane and exact same gear)

also i like those goggle much better http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbycity/s...PV_System.html
at that box size, no customs too. specially, don't need no mod with those (well, you can paint em white for the sun, i did that) and while the FOV is slightly lower the quality is better than 922s

well maybe you are right, so no osd for start

do i understand that right: both goggles have the same resolution, so both should be able to display exact the same. with the wider fov of the older goggle i dont see more information, only the projected screen seems to be wider ?

exact, same resolution, same about of information, but one is wider, the other has a better picture
but also it has better ergonomics, no foam that you gotta add/remove/replace and so on
