I did a lot of rocketry in high school. We competed in a couple NASA competitions, one of which we broke 6,000ft on a hybrid J motor. Being a broke high school kid I launched mostly G-I motors up to 3-4000ft. When our club lost out local field I start loosing interest because the closest launch was a few hours away and only once a month. That's about the time I picked back up RC planes. I'll see if I can't dig up some old videos...

Okay, rocket propelled FPV planes? I'm game! What kind of motors would I need to take a FunJet into orbit? I'm being serious!

Sassen. I'm also thinking of making my funjet a rocketeer =)
But that would just be to get over the clouds in a flash and not waste my battery pack.

Well according to Crash it took a motor about 38mm diameter and about a foot long to send a tube to 6000'. If you want to send a Funjet to even half that it's going to take a helluva lot more power. An RC plane just isn't aerodynamic enough for the speeds rocket motors like to run at so you're going to waste a lot of energy.

54mm, but yeah on the right track it was also a 15lb rocket.

Funjet+rocket motor=the same confetti you got when you put your last funjet through a pole LOL just isn't gonna work man

    Take a look at this

Page 7, chart in the bottom right corner. These are motors made specifically for "rocket gliders" so they would probably work well for an application like this.

    http://www.aerotech-rocketry.com/cus...ch_catalog.pdf

G12-RCT: 2 lbs of thrust for 8 seconds
E7-RCT: 1 lb of thrust for 5 seconds
E6-RCT: 1 lb of thrust for 7 seconds

Not quite sure where to buy them though...

That G12-RCT motor was used before ... on a FunJet!
