Well when I fist got into rc piloting I got a flysky 9x( Turnigy 9x) thinking that 2.4ghz what's superior to fm systems. What's this wrong?

FPV newbie here. I'm starting out with 1.3GHz 800mw Tx on a Bixler (hasn't arrived yet). Also in the market for a JR 10X radio or some similar 72MHz model.

I'm looking at all the choices for OSD, and of course there are a lot. Some have return to home (RTH) built in, which seems like almost a necessity if radio link is lost. Without this feature, how are people not losing their planes when finding/pushing the limits of their RC range? Is RSSI in the OSD a good substitute? RC receiver failsafe doesn't help much, as it wont land the plane!

I do like the EZOSD, but no RTH feature.

    Educate me please!

You won't lose your plane if you do proper installations and testing. I have never used an AP or RTH systems and have flow out 17+ miles, and have flown 10 - 12 miles more times than I remember. You want to keep your first plane as simple as possible - plane, vtx, camera - and then control. Once you get some hours under belt then grow into the advanced features if you choose to do so.

Screw auto-pilots, nothing flies my planes but me.

A great simple OSD is the Tiny2 from the SkylarkFPV

    Thanks, very valuable input.

So how do you know when you've reached your RC range limit? Servo twitching? And then you turn around?

On 72 you will generally get glitching (control) or questionable video (video) - so you turn around. You can mod a Corona 72mHz rx for RSSI though - although RSSI is just a tool - not "the law". The simple thing is to just read (a lot) on here - ask questions, and keep it VERY simple starting out.

I use pan or tilt on my airplanes. If it starts to shake, I turn around and come home. I make certain my failsafes are off before flight so I glitch instead of lock.

If it is broken, fix it. if it isn't broken, I'll soon fix that.

    Hi Guys,

Newbie here. I am flying a Sky Surfer with this fpv setup: http://www.readymaderc.com/store/ind...roducts_id=778
I am getting very short video range. I get interference almost at any distance, and I have tried three different flying places. I am mounting the video tx on the back of the cockpit, as many people do, and I am powering it with a separate lipo. I am doing circuits in front of me of about 100 meters diameter, and I am lucky if I get clear video on half a leg of the circuit. I know I'm not giving you a lot to go on, but can you guys think of anything that I may be missing? I'm not looking for a lot of range at the moment, just the ability to fly small circuits, but I can't get even that much.

    Thanks!

    Juan

That definitely doesn't sound right, I would suspect either a damaged antenna or bad solder joint somewhere.

Thanks for the answer. I did have a crash where the antenna came apart from the tx, but I soldered it back on. The results are no worse than before the accident, and so I doubt that that is the problem. I will try with the regular antennas instead of the bluebeams.

I know it sounds silly, but make sure the channel on your transmitter matches your receiver, sometimes it will still work if you are just on a nearby frequency. What part of the antenna did you solder? Have any pictures of your setup?
