    Phased Array Antenna

Has anybody tried using multiple antennas and phase delays to achieve increased gain while beam steering? Perhaps is not worth the trouble and money, but 10 antennas would theoretically give 10dB of gain which is 3.16x the range (6dB/2x the range).

I may try with 4 antennas, 4 phase delays (from minicircuits), and a power combiner to see if I get anything near 6dB.

    Any thoughts?

It's not as easy as it seems. Usually the best way to do this is to scratch build the whole thing. However, if you can get your measurments accurate enough, I'm certain you can make a good antenna. My question is why would you want such a monster?

If it is broken, fix it. if it isn't broken, I'll soon fix that.

    Alex,

True, it would be a monster!!! I suppose that a diversity set of high gain antennas with mechanical tracking would be simpler for long range. I'll give it a little bit more thought. BTW, what is the longest range you have achieved with your best setup?
