Thread: Tune your 1.2/1.3GHz patch to the proper resonance

I just opened mine up using the heat gun trick, it was very easy, but the glue that holds it was bubbling up, so I just removed it all. What kind ok glue are you guys using to get this together again? Antennas are so tricky that I don't want to use something I shouldn't.

Goop, Shoe Goo, Homax welder. Any of those work. In a pinch, silicone caulking or even hot glue is fine.

If it is broken, fix it. if it isn't broken, I'll soon fix that.

I used good old hot melt glue on Airborne's antenna when I tuned it for him. Works fine. Pretty much any adhesive would work I think; once it's tuned I don't think you'd ever need to get back inside the antenna unless you had to replace the coax feedline for some reason - If you think you'd ever need to get back inside, use a "removable" adhesive and only tack in the corners, otherwise, whatever you prefer.

I'll use hot glue then. If I ever have any problems, I just need to heat it again with the heat gun. It was very easy to open with that method.

Also, I'm afraid of the feedline breaking apart. Is it just me or does it need some kind of reinforcement?

The biggest point to worry about with the feedline is where it enters the antenna - over time, flexing may cause it to break at that point. A bit of hot glue or silicone around where the cable enters the antenna will add a bit of strain relief and make it last longer.

Also, I've personally found that hot glue is better removed with cold, not heat. When hot glue gets cold (IE, stick the antenna in a freezer or use a can of "air duster" upside down (Most air duster is really tetrafluoroethane, otherwise known as R-134a refrigerant, same stuff in your car's AC)), it becomes very brittle and will break apart easily leaving no sticky residue.
