View Full Version : So many OSDs, so little money!

I think the title gives you an idea of my budget....:p

Right now I've successfully managed to get a HK 200mw 5.8g setup running using IBCrazy's CL and SPW combo ( built myself) with terrific results. Damn hard to see my 10" LCD screen in bright light though (working on various shade options) but alas, goggles are well beyond the budget ATM.

I was really nervous about taking my eyes off the plane to watch the monitor today but managed to do it for about 30-40% of the total flight.

So getting to my OSD requirements...I like that new Hobby King GPS OSd but it has no directional home finder. I want altitude, speed, battery and directions home so I'd like suggestions for cheap OSDs with those features.

Cheers

Of course he means the Eagle Tree! I mean, even a child can set up those 60+ wires that make it work :)

In my book, there are 3 OSDs: Remzibi, EZ OSD, and Dragon OSD. In that order.

Hamburgers don't tates good when around soldering and glue fumes. I suggest you use your grill outside :)

Sigh, ET doesn't have any more cables then the other OSDs with current logging if you chose not to add any extra sensors and don't use a PPM-sum signal from your RX. However if you want everything then the amount of cables add up but nothing that's hard to install IMO. And for me it has worked well. If you want airspeed and altitude (non GPS) then ET has done this the correct way with the possibility to read dynamic and static pressure using a pitot tube. Competitors often have integrated baro sensors on the OSD board itself which isn't optimal in all cases.

I'm however very impressed with the new RVOSD5 with it's integrated IMU and baro sensor in one package. I've only tried ET OSD (Std & Pro) and RVOSD and I think both are good in different ways but right now I think that RV has the upper hand.

However if you don't have much cash but still want to try how it's like to have an OSD then I would suggest one of HK new super cheap OSDs, they also have OSD with GPS. However these are very simple and not really full featured. :)

Somebody should update the spreadsheet with RVOSD V5. Is Daniel Wee still maintaining it?
