This guy is just incredible. He is breaking his own records at a pace of 5 Km per week.

Trappy, you need to get your Supra in the air...;)

Oh my, then I guess what I wrote over at the other place is true; by the end of the month he'll be flying halfway across Europe if his current trend of +5km with each attempt continues ....

P.s. trappy, get your ass in gear, this guy is one-upping himself, and you, with every every new record attempt (or alternatively ask the Spanish airforce to shoot him out of the sky, but that's lame).

Yeah pretty impressive achievement. Trappy, a new challenge me thinks :)

Yeah - that's pretty much the nail in the coffin. Imagine if it was a plane that actually was GOOD at thermaling - haha. His weapon of choice.

Perhaps there should be different records; one for 100% powered flight and another for soaring. Soaring takes flying skill and I believe helped by the right location/terrain. I have none of these (least of all any flying skill!) and therefore no chance of ever being a contender! :D

I don't agree about classification for records... for me, power flight or soaring, buttom line as long as it's been done with no RTH or autopilot, just true FPV piloting, that's what counts.

I thought Roberto Montiel does/has used RTH ?

I don't think he should be penalized for outsmarting everyone either. Trappy uses his terrain to his advantage a lot - 18km out and 3 feet off the ground - LOL. Hell that's a record in itself. You have to use what you're surrounded with to your advantage. Nothing is stopping anyone else from building a glider. That rig is around $500 - CHEAP by glider standards --- so he deserves the record.

Oh indeed, without question. A spectacular achievement. The record is his!

I really don't think that there has to be a competition - there are many different disciplines and strengths in FPV. I think we can all co-exist w/out feeling like a single person has to hold every conceivable record. I like the fact that there are "different" kinds of records. For example - I have the long-range FPV record of all the FPV pilots on my street. I also hold the 2nd place sexiest FPV pilot.

..who would hold the 1st place then ??? ;)

That would be J'son Johnson, aka SENTRY, he's been flying outside of the local park as of late :D

Are there any girls that fly FPV that you haven't been hitting on? :D

Roberto very often switchs on the RTH when flying back home. For having a sandwich, or some other human needs...;)
Do you really believe this invalidates his records?:)

Not at all. It's understanable. By using autopilot or RTH I was thinking about really needing it to be able to success such record...in this case this is '' comfort'' use lol

this dude needs a frickin award! awesome, way to beat a record! all of a sudden Crist Rigotti looks like a old fart. Wait a minute ... hahaha

LOL. Crist did a great job taking the delivery truck long-range and back. Cross-platform competition is tough. All of the guys who have blown through 16km are good at what they do IMO.

:) yeah and it should have a TBS logo on with a red circle with a slash through it.

Yesterday (he flies every Wednesday) he tried again, but had to turn at "only" 40Km, because video was quite bad. It seems that video quality (i.e. noise floor) in the area is quite random. So, instead of breaking again his record he just flown in the 25Km range for 5 hours...

Trappy, again: get your Supra and your L1D and try it. It is not a question of breaking any record, it is just about testing what can be done. Roberto flies on 1.3GHz, with a 14dBi patch, and no diversity, and clearly viedo is his limiting factor. I am convinced that with your video setup you can do 80/160Km.

sircana: you guys are lucky. If I fly a composite glider for 80km in ANY direction I will get into a lot of trouble :) For us the long range flight was a technical challenge. We are not going to go for 80km anymore. Next goal is 160km. For that we need a few components, all of them are already on order :)

Why specifically 160km?

If you fly 160km in one direction you might get out of your countries aerospace
