>>As you can see the performance on 3s is a bit lackluster, but on 4s it rocks! Pretty efficient and the quality is good, durable. Really liking this motor!
I too like this motor, the only problem is i cant get the damn things to work with Simon's firmware on F-30A, there are rumers that the WII-ESC might work with slight timing adjustment. However i do not know enough about the firmware. Going to be testing after this weekends adventure. Or try the Rc-timer 750KV.
I also want to get my hands on Grapner props, i hear they are ultra smooth.

Crap, seriously? I just ordered 3 more of those motors and 4 new Hobby King 20A's that I was going to flash to simonk's firmware! Well, I'll test it on a single motor first.
I'd really like to test graupner props as well. Almost ordered some today but between the prop $7, the adapter ring $2 and $14 for shipping... Well, I was just going to order 1 to test on the thrust stand, or 3 to test on the tricopter... but too much damn money... ordered 14 apc props for the same price as 3 graupners!

If you have some TGY.Hex ESC's they might seem to work but anythiung BS_NFET.HEx wont :( Thats why i havnt tried graupners yet, i've been going through alot of APC already LMAO.

You just jumped past my current knowledge base... No idea what you're talking about, lol! I picked those esc's because its what David chose to flash and use in his new quad

Do you have some RC-Timer ESC's? Those are TGY.HEX, the F-30A / F-20A are BS_NFET.Hex and those are the ones that give you issues with the posted motors. Honeslty it might be a good idea to read up on it some, as that stuff can get a little messy:)

Yeah, reflashing esc's is my new research project. Been reading the 300 page long thread on rcg and trying to soak it in. Once I have a grip on it I'll start a tutorial thread here so people don't have to go to rcg... lol. I thought the .hex were the firmware files? Well, even if I can't get these flashed esc's to work with the ntm's I've got another quad and tricopter they can go on. Then get rc-timer's.

JUST A FYI - New HKSS series are no longer flash able the easy way and thereare reports of the same issue with some of the Redbrick line as well.

we managed to get it right with the green anti vibration gel pads from vibrationmounts.com - we didn't balance the props though and there is very little jello from time to time. I just put some stock graupners on my MT4006 and went out flying with some standard gel bricks you can buy from the copter shops ... result is usable but definitely not perfect. I think they are too fat, I will skin them down some and then try again.

I'm very happy with the Naza. It's incredibly easy to tune. 3 flights with 2 parameters each on the sliders is all it takes. Flown with the Wii and the KK before, the Naza is the easiest to use for sure.

thanks. yeah I found the GoPro. A small piece of metal got sucked into the motors and it randomly blocked it. the quad fell out of the sky from 50+ meters, spent 30+ mins looking for it ... :)

kloner, PM me your name and I'll throw one in. Quick!
To those that haven't received the shipping notifications yet: DJI has been slacking, we're waiting for the Nazas. Also, we ran out of TBS CORE and TBS 69 sometime while packing the 2nd batch of orders. RiSCyD is preparing some more COREs and we are going to ship a few more this weekend in the same order that we received the payments, so it will be nice and fair.
I hope we can ship out all TBS DISCOVERY's, there is a huge batch of COREs coming end of month so that's the worst case scenario. TBS69 and DJI have been promised for this week. Please keep in mind we are well into 3-digit orders & shipments. We had one employee at the post office come in today just for TBS orders. The kind of support you guys are giving us is amazing and we're trying very hard not to let you down ... but it's just a little bit out of our league to have these amounts on stock. Anyways, I think all things considered it has been going pretty well. Every DISCOVERY order that is on its way has received a shipping notification e-mail. Hope you enjoy!

Oh well... BUUUUUUUUAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH i´m ok i´m ok
Ok Trappy for real. A few questions regarding the rest of stuff i will need to put on this baby on air.
1- I will be using EZUHF diversity. I see in some of your pictures that you dont´t use any wires to connect the EZUHF to the board. Do i need t get some kind of adapter plugs? do you provide those?
2- I also got here 4 x MT4006 from http://www.multirotor.co, it was for a quad project i was going to built but i decided to get the DISCOVERY. These are the motors you use right?
How these compare to the flameweels that comes with the kit i ordered? Better choice ? Can i use the ESC´s from the kit with these motors?
3- You are using Graupner E-props right? What size? I remember using these in my Hexa, and they would suck the life of my batteries much faster and with less lift than the APC E-props. Have you tried the APC?
4- Gopro anti vibe mount. I see that you solved the vibration problem ;). Are shipping that with the kit? Is that an extra? I would like to have that if possible, i really need that for that project i told you http://boomfestival.org/boom2012/
Regarding the 3 digit order list... :O What can i say... Man you are on you way! Congrats. I ordered mine on 18th of May, so i must bee one of the first 50 I think ??? I hope.
Sorry for all the questions, i just want to have everything ready

Enthlapy, will check my skype in 2 days.
filipinto,
1) the adapter for the EzUHF connection is supplied. If you have enough cables, though, I suggest doing it with very short cables going from the rear of the plate up to the Rx. It's just so much safer in a crash.
2) I fly the MT4006 with the E-Props 10x5 and the 30A ESCs from DJI. They are ok, but not very powerfull (too small prop). I am happy with them, though.
3) Never tried the APC. You would need to compare these.
4) Your best bet is to go to vibrationmounts.com and get the green gel pads. We haven't really found a "commercial" solution yet.
http://vibrationmounts.com/Store.asp?Page=Products8.htm
V10Z62MSN05
We used half of such a gel pad for the video. This is the "1080p jello-free" version. If you just need 720p any kind of foam or gel solution probably works. Oh, and also please balance your props ... we haven't done that yet :)

Don think it will work, this quad suffers from lower freq vibes than whatthose gels are made for, but i maybe wrong.

yeah it's high tech stuff. like I said, if you're after vibe-free 720p stuff all you need is balanced props and a bit of foam from the household. Rensen even had luck with just double-sided tape. If you want full-blown vibration-free image in any flight situation, you'll need some of the high tech aquagel stuff.

just be careful, I stepped up my FPV quad game a little too fast yesterday. Completely confused the Naza trying to be like Juz until it said "**** you, trappy, get OpenPilot" and decided to nosedive into a forest from 1000+ meters AGL. 30+ seconds of free fall. I'm going to look for it on Friday, very interesting to see how a 1000m drop translates to damage on the frame. Right now it's raining like crazy up there, too dangerous for a recovery.
Will look at the video once I get off work :)

Trappy, did ya see naza is suppose to enable a ppm input soon? Will it change anything on how we wire it up other than just use the one signal wire?
NAZA has some quirks, some are worse than others. When is cc3d suppose to be available?
Trappy
20th June 2012, 12:00 PM
ppm will only simpify the wiring. hoping they get that done soon, we're having some custom cables made in the meantime. soldering the RX to the board directly is not good, it kills the receiver on a hard crash.
no idea when CC3D is supposed to be available. I know I'm going to kill for one very soon, so better not disclose if you have one :)

takning a quad up to 1000 meters is crazy high :) ive been up at 500 meters with my tricopter.. let´s hope the memorycard did stay in place so the rekording is ok :)
iam going to use a NAZA on my discovery frame, do you think openpilot is better ? its hard to get hands on a open pilot, but you may know some more ppl in the fpv scene :)
i did order the silicone mats btw :) just waiting for everything to arrive.
Trappy
20th June 2012, 12:06 PM
ok, cool. vibrationmounts are excellent company btw. if it doesn't work I'm sure you can trade it in, etc. I was on the phone with the lady for about 30 minutes and she recommended / calculated these mats for me from the RPM of the motors, etc.
I think the Naza is really cool, you just need to know how to fly with it - which I didn't. It is also a bit too "supportive" for me, it makes flying very easy but what I want is a helicopter-like experience ... I push forward, the thing moves until I push back. With the Naza you have to continuously push forward. I'm the impatient kind, so I pushed forward and the naza was trying to correct ... then I pushed full forward just out of spite, trying to get the damn thing to do a drop. The fact that I was in altitude-mode didn't help, I guess. Suddenly you could just feel it give up. It did a left bank, camera pointing out sideways, then it started a corkscrew of death.

I had a bad feeling about that... Do you think soldering the Rx to the bottom of the upper plate (inside the frame) would be safer? Or does the stress from a crash tweak it?
Trappy, I have a CC board you can buy... Or trade... Barely used. PM me if interested.

thanks Flying Monkey, I need to collect the paycheck first and pay my rent. Besides, I'm looking for a CC3D with the Enthlaypy-tuned parameters :)
never had the issue during regular flight, only happened when I pushed it to the limits in Altitude mode. There was a video of a guy who shall not be named doing a dive down a mountain with the Naza in manual mode. So it can be made to work ... it's just a PITA to figure out that way.

Yep Naza is quirky in attitude mode. Push Push Push then you get that crappy pitch up just when you dont need it.
Did you try switching the TX off so it went failsafe and leveled out... or did you just enjoy the view. LOL

In my 2.5 years experiense with multirotor I have flown with the KK board, the first one we buildt ourself with some guidence from Rolf bakke him self.
I really like the KK, and it will give you the Heli experience.
So I am totally new to Naza is it realy a bitch to fly compared to KK ?
Trappy
20th June 2012, 04:39 PM
the altitude mode takes some getting used to. the manual mode is "helicopter mode". Unfortunately I kept forgetting to switch the modes. I was flying up the mountain through the trees where altitude mode is really cool to be honest. just when you're trying to descend at juz-like speeds, you'll find manual mode to be much better.

IMHO a well set KK board is not far off the mark providing you can actually fly a Helicopter well. Trouble is KK doesnt have a Get out of jail failsafe like a Naza.

i hope the DIscovery frame with the NAZA will track better than my tricopter with KK :). I often get into trouble in high speed and very narrow spaces :)
high speed= the fast as the tri go without frontflipping hehehe..

Trappy, Have all pre-order Discovery frames shipped?
Trappy
21st June 2012, 07:50 AM
all the plate and plate + arm orders have been shipped. we are waiting for DJI parts to ship the RTF kit and Naza orders, as well as waiting for COREs to ship orders containing COREs. We will do about 20 orders this weekend with COREs, and will send another 20-30 orders next week containing the Naza's and more CORE orders.

I'm on vacation the week of July 2nd, it would be great to have the Discovery finished by then, if not I can just fly it as the standard F450 it's setup as now.

Thanks but I'll wait. I've got 3 FPV quads flying at the moment, the stock F450 being one of them. I'd rather build it once than have to take most of it apart again later to install the core, not like I'm waiting on the parts to be able to fly! :)

the CG is painted at the bottom. henry, you have the prototype, so just make sure if you accelerate it doesn't bend backwards.
The vibration damping tape was not included, sorry guys, we would have had to wait another 2 weeks for 3M to get it to us :( use any rubber band and any kind of damping material (foam, gel, etc). for 1080 the foam tape would not have been sufficient in most cases :(

Enthlapy (TWL) has discovered a pretty sweet motor/ESC combo for the discovery that is apparently very snappy on just 2200mAh 4S with 7min flight time. It's the perfect setup to do the kind of flying we like: adrenaline-packed. He's a very busy man and hard to reach, but he promised me some details very soon :)

True true, and just started to explore it. Just some raw footage slapped together of the east coast.

Still very much learning to fly the quad and after the beach part is the FPV maiden of the Flamewheel F450.. soon to be canibalised to become the new and improved TBS discovery.
Funny enought the DJI 10 x 5 props give me a lot less jello then the graupner E-props. All footage was shot in R5 (1080p) Shall try the R4 mode and see what the difference is.
My kit has been shipped so looking forward to building it!!

omg Chuckmill what's that contraption on the left? :) and did I already mention I'm jealous about your FC? :)
Lol..well that contraption is how I "modularized" my FPV gear. It allows me to move my FPV gear from one quad to another in a few seconds, attached with some velcro and rubberbands. 1 module holds the OSD, VTX & GPS the other holds the curent sensor, V lipo & camera, connected together with all the wires in a cable sleeve.
Of course this setup is not optimized for the Discovery frame but I will use it for testing until I add a permanent FPV system to the frame.

wooohoo Dallibab, don't fly it in the garden man your open space vid is so much better :) If you're using the CORE and you're getting lines in the video a LC filter won't help. You're probably getting vibrations to the VTx. Try wrapping it in some foam. Other than that, what's the verdict?

TBS CORE BACKLOG NOTICE:
The TBS CORE will not be in stock for another 2 weeks. Since I'm basically spending half my day answering mails about expected shipping date, here's a very detailed timeline and options.
The TBS CORE will be back in stock July 8th - 10th (depending how fast FedEx is). After that we will begin shipping immediately. Immediately in electronics engineering terms means about 2 days, as we have to test, flash and package the TBS COREs. This puts the shipping time to approximately 12th to 14th July.
If you would like to get your order shipped out without the CORE before hand, the ONLY way to get this done is through our contact form on our website. Let us know the name on your order.
* For those of you that have selected the "install on quad" option, the separate shipping is free of charge.
* If you have ordered the CORE bundle only, the extra shipping is $10 flat fee worldwide shipping.
We will ship out all those orders on Monday, July 2nd. This is the only date at which we will do early shipping, as we are away on a project from July 4th to July 8th, and after that the TBS CORE are expected to arrive.
Thanks for your patience and our sincerest apologies for the delays!

Depends on what kind of flying you want to do? Hard and fast, or slow and smooth? Juz really likes these 1200kv motors http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__17345__NTM_Prop_Drive_Series_28_26A_1200kv_250w. html

Setup my naza, all green arrows in the central position.

Hey mate,
Try these
I'd be looking into you radio set up or a dud pot in your tx causing drift? does the green bar stay in the middle after calibration? Flick the elevator stick and check again?
Or the FC not level?
This frame is a 100% improvement on other spider frames out there, none of the beta testers have reported problems.

WOW! Please can you provide details on your build. Motors / ESC's / Props / Battery used? Looks like it works awsome on you setup, you might wana turn down Kp Just a tiny hair. Also was most of that flying in Attitude or Rate? I will share my remote settings too. I fly really aggressive however im forcing my self to smooth out my flying to go between trees and follow cars.

Anyone have experience with FreeFlight controller (Auto Balance) or KKboard on this frame ? can it be centered on the middle of the X from motor to motor ?
Also, i will be salvaging my brother DJI f450 from GoodLuckBuy, think This motor (Sunnysky) (http://www.goodluckbuy.com/sunnysky-angel-a2212-2212-980kv-brushless-motor-multicopter-kk-multi-copter-quadcopter.html) will do the job ?

The FC's should work but will need to be tuned loose due to limited tuning parameters and you will need to turn your rate for pitch and roll diffrently. Your Yaw will also effect overall performance. So Low Rates on Pitch and Yaw. It will fly "loose". Motors should be ok.

Just caught this, what ESC's are you using TGY or BS_NFET? I think you hit a dead spot when you flipped causing loss in roll. Do this before you go flying again. Run Input calibration with the remote maxed on DR. On my 9C it tops out at 140% in roll and pitch. Then set your full rates to 100% When you fly Rate reduce that to about 75% with some expo. Or to your liking. I think if you had SiLabs ESC you wont hit a dead spot im experiancing if your using the NTM Prop motors 1200kv and TGY, BS_NFet esc with this heavy quad. Im guessing your 1300-1500 grams AUW? Maybe more if your running a bigger pack like a 3300.

Please see above for radio calibration. There is a dead spot on that ESC/Motor/AUW combo. The roll when yaw is due to the frame design. Just turn down Kp for yaw and rates. Honeslty im supprized the setup works as well as it does. I would be expecting bigger ossilations than what i've seen. Hit me up on skype later this evening maybe i can get you squared away. them 2212 are fine for hovering, but you want 28mm or bigger if your gonna fly somewhere, especially in wind. 2810-2812 get some mileage, 1000kv are good with 3 or 4s.

Guys please help
I've transferred my 450 naza gear into my new discovery and I seem to have a problem with stability. Basically in attitude mode it is always trying to go backwards.
I've balanced it at the cg, tried multiple battery locations.
Setup my naza, all green arrows in the central position.
And still it flys backwards. I'm beginning to think its a geometry issue with the arms.
Any ideas out there
Cheers
David
Hi David, put a lighter battery in or move the CG a little forward. The CG point we indicated is primarily for the flight control placement so you can configure it right. If you balance it at CG it may move slightly rearwards. Go about 0.5 inches or 1.5cm in front of the CG point with the weight.

Hey mate,
Try these
I'd be looking into you radio set up or a dud pot in your tx causing drift? does the green bar stay in the middle after calibration? Flick the elevator stick and check again?
Or the FC not level?
This frame is a 100% improvement on other spider frames out there, none of the beta testers have reported problems.
Mine is on the way to me now.
Chris, cheers i tried all that the other day. Flicking sticks and "all green". I fly all my other Naza's with the same tx and no problems.
Could someone please post their NAZA settings
Cheers

Your looking at 120 watt motors. a flamewheel hovers at around 140-160 watts for all four on them, but as soon as it gets windy the thing wobbles and after about 25mph wind, doesn't make headway in atti. With 2814 motors, same props, same battery, quad run 600-700 watts in atti, moves out 45 mph, and in wind is a monster to be dealt with. still makes headway, gets more stable in wind than it is without. They have the right amount of power when the quad wants it. in a fpv scenario, more watts available the better. These still hover 120-130 watts on 4s and 9x5 props. is what i've ran since the first trip away from home trying to fpv. have had the kit you want to buy since it was released. i usually carry a 3000 4s pack on top and a 1800 4s pack inside and get 16-17 minute flights if it's not too windy and i try keeping the watts on the 300-400 side when moving forward.

i guess if you were into slow speed keepin it close fpv a 22mm motor would work. the 2217 would be better suited. i've had great luck with suppo brand
EDIT: one other thing, the 2212 come from the factory with the shafts loctited to the bearings so there totally unserviceable. $40 ea, can't swap bearings, prop shaft is permanent one shot the motors done, etc. Theres more bad things about em than good

Alot of members talk about DJI arms and dont like them, my brother just trade me his stock Goodluckbuy DJI clone, it has sunnysky motors and 9x5 3 blade props, the flight controller is a FreeFlight, i just installed my rx, did not calibrate anything and took it outside to try, i have been flying quads for about a year (maybe 60 flights) and can say that these arms are very stable, more stable than my X-525 with the same flight controller, so i am sure it will be a blast on the TBS Discovery :)

thanks for this info kloner. We are going the Enthlapy route to offer a 2nd motor system. We have just posted a pretty big order at RCTimer. Or so we thought. They seemed very unimpressed and said it would take 1 day for delivey. Haven't heard from them in 2 days so that's a good sign. I feared that if they made 3-digit figure order motors in 1 day the quality may not be that good :D HK ESCs are also en route, we'll flash them and offer a "White Llama Motor System" pretty soon.
Bakchos, with DJI it's like with ImmersionRC, TBS or other popular brands. Some people hate them, some people love them. If you look at it neutrally probably everything is good, with some small benefits here and some small downsides there.

Wait time right now for the TBS CORE is 2 weeks. Will be at "instant shipping" for quite some time after we've caught up with the pending orders.
The power for the EzUHF is supplied automatically. You just need to hook up the NAZA properly, it will come from the MPU or whatever that thing with the LED is called. You can connect that to any of the available solder pads.

Trappy, got a question. When i plug in the little molex wire you sent to the vTx plug, the yellow and white wires align with the opposite on the board where the pads are. yellow lines up with audio, white lines up with video. is the molex wired different order from the pads? or do i need to swap them 2?

I like to use about 30% Expo and 50% Dual rate in Manual Mode (NAZA), to smooth out the neutral point, when I fly smoothly, and for proximity flying about 20% Expo and 70% Dual rate. But as always Expo/Dual rate settings depend on your own preferences :)

IMPORTANT for all DJI NAZA owners!
TBS DISCOVERY has been inspiring people to push things a little beyond what these devices were made for apparently. When you do high altitude drops or near-vertical proximity runs at low altitude please remember not to go down too much with your throttle or program in a 15% minimum throttle. If you push down very hard and at the same time reduce the throttle all the way, you may experience a very fast pitch up movement followed by complete shutdown of the motors. This is not related to our frame but to the DJI Naza flight control. We will report this issue to DJI tomorrow morning. All dropouts were experienced in ALTITUDE mode, we're doing some tests to see if we can reproduce it in MANUAL mode. all test subjects have so far survived their fall without motors ... :)

compared to Naza, we must devote a little bit more time, but the result is a completely different kind! totally customizable!

yeah. well you know, if we can come up with a few set of motor/prop/ESC/battery combinations that will work for everyone, we can also share our gain settings and work on a highly tuned setup and remove a lot of the guess work too. we're working our first RTF quads right now, only pending the TBS CORE now, which will come fairly tuned out of the box - with the NAZA for now.

frame is in stock, we're missing one cable on the current pending orders that should be supplied tomorrow. The Naza we pick up tomorrow too, but we are already out of stock as the new shipment comes in. We may get 10 more tomorrow, depending how much stock the distributor has available. so please ask me again tomrrow, I will tell you :)

So you didn't pack it yourself and put some Trappy packing tape on? How disappointing! :D

I would if I had some, I'll wrap 'm in decorative foil with strings and all and include a nice hand written card, who's that?

@trappy, package arrived today - postman now thinks i've been buying ladies sandals… plain brown wrapping next time please, it's what i expect with all my internet purchases ;-)
Quick questions
1. solder XT60 connector directly to the discovery or use a short pigtail?
2. is it ok to drill the top plate (obviously away from the Rx tracks) to mount my VTx antenna ?
3. Anyone happen to have pics of how they've 'neatly' arranged an IRC EzOSD and VTx installation?
thanks
