View Full Version : 5.8 skew-planar Rx cable length

I just received my Bluewhip antenna set for 5.8 and I'm in the process of setting up my ground station case. I have the option of mounting my receiver on the upper portion of the box (so the antenna can plug directly into the receiver) or locating the receiver in a more aesthetically pleasing space in the bottom compartment (which will require about 24" of cable between the receiver and the antenna).

If I take the latter approach, will that noticeably degrade performance? If not, what type of wire should I use for the extension?

Also, do the antennas (both Tx and Rx) want to be in a vertical or horizontal orientation?

Thanks for the help and for the very well made antennas.

You'd have a signal strength reduction of around 1.5-2 db depending on the extension you intend to use. Both antennas need to be vertical.

Thanks for the quick reply Alex. Looks like the receiver definitely goes up top with the antenna plugged directly into it.
