Hello all, I have finally finished my quad and have flown 5 packs so far in it. Setup is a Jakub 450 frame, Tiger 900kv motors, GWS 10x6x3 props, Spektrum (I know, I know) AR8000, Plush 30A and the DJI WKm FC. I also have a Camera and IRC 600mW 5.8 GHz.

GPS hold is quite amazing. It was very windy the other day and it was holding station like a champ. Even my 11 year old flew it. Though in GPS mode you more 'tell it where to go' and it flies itself.

This spring I will be building a plane for FPV but for now I might try it on my quad. Problem is where to put it - how far realistically does it need to be from the Rx / FC / IMU. The GPS / compass is mounted high, with a copper clad board under it which I hope helps.

Should the vTx be on the landing gear (right by the ESCs), on the boom or on the bottom of the center plate? Not sure where to start.

I have been looking into this and someone told me they had success creating a boom to mount the TX on...how and where is up to you, Good Luck

Currently the VTx is on the boom, the antenna is pointing up (2cm away from prop) since down would kill it in a bad landing.

I walked down the street holding it over my head while my kids were watching the video and we were on hands free phones. Got a block away with not much issue, even with cars parked and houses closely lining the street, damp weather, power lines etc. If I had altitude and clear space I think it would be much better.

The boom idea has been in my head - out back to give a visual cue to direction.

One thing you should do is get yourself a set of Blue beam CP antennas. You will get much better signal over the stock whips.

I have my Vtx essentially in the center of the frame., but you could put it underneath a boom. What type of ground station setup do you have?

I have a set of CP antennas from TrueRC.net. Ground station is 7" LCD w/ shroud, IRC Duo5800, all on a tripod.

Went for first FPV flight today with LOS since my street is very busy with powerlines, trees, parked cars etc.

Came in for one last quick pass along the street and it lost some altitude so I landed it to prevent a tip over. As I was walking over to get eyes on, a nice little old lady decided to drive over it... F*@K. Video to come shortly. She pops her head out and says 'Did I run over something'.

ARRRRRRGGGGGHHHHH

Thankfully I had mounted the vTx under the frame between the 4 legs so it survived. If I had left it on the boom it'd be toast.
