So I am looking to upgrade the RF module in my 9X radio and trying to figure out what I want. I really want the FrSky modules, but they seem to be sold out at HK for the moment, and i am not ready to get a long range UHF set up yet. So what other options are there? I have the original 9X receiver in a quadcopter that I am flying LOS for now. BUT I want to add a small flying wing to my hangar :) I was thinking about getting an Orange RX system that is compatible with bind and fly aircraft, and a receiver to go with, but not sure on the reliability. I would like something with a failsafe mode.
Thanks
Rusty

From what I've read, the only 2.4 system trusted by FPVers is Frsky. I'm waiting on someone to either sell me one or it to come back in stock. (I couldn't find a local supplier).

If you are going 433mhz, check regulations for your country, it isn't always legal at out power levels.

Here is how to change the 9x module.

I just had a look, I think hobbyking is about due to get some stock in.

Have a look at the graph, when it goes into the negative qty, it is around 10 days to go positive again.

Is it a new product? I looked at it but I am familiar with the 9x so bought a second. http://rcsearch.info/hobbyking/i45026/#stocklevelchart

FYI: just search http://rcsearch.info/hobbyking and click on the graphs

The Taranis is basically a completely pimped out version of the turnigy 9x from what I gather. Mine has been on backorder for months now. FrSky has material shortage which delayed production after the first run, as i understand it.

Bruce gives it a glowing review on his 'tube channel... check it out. Best radio you'll find for about one fiddy.

Yup, it really is. However I wasn't ok with waiting months for one so I modded a 9X with a smartiparts board to flash er9x, a backlight that's controllable via software and can be programmed to any of the switches, and the FrSky XJT module from Aloft Hobbies. The XJT is actually the newest transmitter module from FrSky and is the same tech used in the Taranis. I paired it with a X8R receiver which also comes with the Taranis and right now, I really don't mind not having a Taranis. About the only thing I'm missing is the speaking that it can do and the finger sliders. They'd be more useful for a brushless gimbal than knobs. O and I suppose the bigger screen but... we fly FPV, who cares!

Yep, can't find the FrSky modules either, hopefully HK gets stock soon. I don't plan 433 UHF just yet, but might in the future. I have my ham ticket, so I will be sure to verify the frequencies :)

I started modding the 9X, I removed the stock antenna and wired a new antenna port to the back of the stock RF module, so I can completely remove if for use with a SIM, and be ready for other modules, like FrSky and UHF modules.

Yep, doing the same to my 9X. Backlight, flashed to er9x. Hmm, looks like Aloft has the XJT in stock?? Think I may jump on that!

Does anyone know if the telemetry from the XJT can be displayed on the 9X screen like the DJT telemetry?
