I am having a problem finding a neutral point with the throttle control on my Spectrum DX7 when flying the Guai Quad 330X. I am either climbing or decending, holding altitude does not seem to be a possibility. Is there a setting in the Transmitter I can change to give me smoother throttle control and better altitude management?

What size props are you using? Smaller props gave me much more subtle response. (not gaui though, homebrew quad)

You can set a throttle curve on your radio normally. Sorry, I'm not familiar with Spektrum. It probably somewhere in your programmable mix settings. If you flatten out the curve around mid-stick you should have much finer control.

You can't set throttle curve in the acro mode.

You can't set throttle curve in the acro mode.

That stinks. On my 9C I have a made a custom mix in acro, which offsets my throttle, essentially modifying the curve much like it would in a heli. Maybe you can do that on Spektrum?

Couldn't you also setup your radio in a heli mode? You don't need collective pitch and swash mixing. This way you could have the throttle curve mix available. Just make sure the channel outputs are independent. I would probably hook up servos to each channel and make sure that elevator, aileron and throttle inputs are not mixing. Seems like a lot of work, but of you're having trouble the curve will definitely help you out.

I watched a video about ESC's on YouTube. Cheaper ESC's only have 56 selectable input points, Better ESC's have 128 and more. The more inputs points you have the smoother your controls will be. I am building another Quad, this time I am using Castle ESC's. We will see if that makes a difference.

Curious about the castle esc perfomance in a quad. A lot
of people have success with the turnigy plush esc. Not sure if it's the higher refresh rates or the input intervals that determine a smoother throttle curve in a multirotor. What are you running in there now?

I'm from around Philadelphia just 20mi north.

I'm using the 10 Amp ESC's that came with the Gaui kit.

this time I am using Castle ESC's.

If you haven't already ordered the castle I would wait. We tried the Castle Creations Phoenix 25 with a multiwii quad without success. After several emails to Castle and many hours of testing it was determined that the frame rate was the problem. The ESC will accept an input of 200Hz but would only update output power at 50Hz. This is the same for the ICE, Thunderbird models. As of September 2011 there were no immediate plans to address this since their engineers were busy dealing with a recall on the HV It's possible the problem has been addressed but I haven't checked back yet.
